What would be expected - the fans run at full speed all the time.
I have downgraded my BIOS back to 0122, which was the BIOS the machine came with when I bought it a few weeks ago, to see if the problem persists.
The fact that the fans initially will come up full blast after a few days of the computer off, then return to controlled mode after telling Win 7 to restart, suggests software.....
I have had the problem even with the original BIOS version, processor fan and rear fan at max (1860/2040 RPM respectively).
I went into the BIOS and noted "processor thermal margin" was 0 even though I had just turned on the machine after hours of being unplugged. Int temp=25, remote temp=27.
So it seems there is an intermittent problem with the processor thermal margin value.
Any ideas?
seems like an issue with reading out the cpu-temp on startup. take it (cpu) out of the socket, look for damages and put it back in - carefully.

I have the same situation as described. Although I do not unplugged the machine from the AC power source it is similar (I use the switch at the back of the power supply to switch it off ). Even with the latest bios (0190) this problem still exist. The solution to this problem is not to switch off the power to the machine using the power supply switch but to just shut down the machine through the OS.
I can confirm this problem with my DP55WG.
At least one time the fans were rotating at maximum speed after booting up, and the CPU thermal margin was shown as 0. This was after the computer was detached from the power for some time.
After a reboot everything was back to normal.
Normally I always leave the power connected, and only shut down the computer through Windows, so this isn't a real issue for me. But I can imagine that it is a bigger issue for others.
I returned that machine a long time ago for a refund, and bought an Acer with an AMD processor that works reliably and predictably after being unplugged - or not.
I cannot sanction computer hardware with mysterious malfunctions such as this.
It is not an issue for me also. Just affirming what you have stated. For the sake of discussing the probable cause, I believed it is not a bios or software issue but a hardware issue.
This issue can be reproduced easily , at an every alternate reboot CPU themal margin is set to 0 under IDU and BIOS, rebooting it again resloves the issue , I tried bios firmware update thrice among different release 122 , 165 & 190 but it didn't helped , its pretty annoying while listening to the noise coming up at system startup due to high RPM for cpu fan (2700+) , this issue is not only with this board but almost in all the P55 & H55 series of Intel boards , these series of motherboards can't be recommended for professional workstations where rebooting frequently is to suggested or you can't afford to reboot.
I would really appreciate if some one can suggest permanent solution of this , else I should get a replacement of this board from Intel

I feel they have so much issues with their hardware that they are not sure from where to start or what to deal first .
Hi there. I have an DX58SO Motherboard and the same problem. Everytime when I start the computer the fans run on full speed but before booting they slow down to lower speeds. But not everytime, sometimes they are not controlled and they run on full speed all the time (also in Windows). When I reset the computer (I mean the hardware reset switch), the fans runs slower, quiter (sometimes on the 2nd try). Don't someone know where can be the problem ? Everything works fine, my BIOS is latest, but the problem occurs often.
And you are right, I don't let computer on the power source during the night.
