Hi all, i've downloaded the new firmware and am having a weird error when running the firmware. I boot into dos and the disc detects my SSD drive fine but during the update when you see the _ blinking, it will pop up with an error saying. Error reading from drive A: Dos area : General Failure Abort ignore retry fail
Retrying does the same thing, so i dont know what's going on. In my bio's it's set at compatible and IDE, am i suppose to set this to ACHI?
Anyone else have this issue and if you fixed it, can you explain how?
Thanks
The ReadMe explicitly states to set SATA to ACHI and not to RAID or IDE when doing the firmware update. Then afterwards you can set it back to what you like.
Regards,
Mike
thanks, i appreciate the reply
will try later, i read the guide and it doesnt state anything like that
cheers
The readme also states:
"2. "Drive not recognized" in AHCI SATA mode
ISSUE: Some platform BIOS implementations of SATA port settings
are not compatible with the update program's process for
locating the SSD within the system in AHCI mode.
WORKAROUND:
For best compatibility, configure the BIOS SATA port mode to
The "Legacy" or "Compatibility" mode to perform the firmware upgrade"
The above is only if you have an issue using AHCI mode.
thanks for that, well it's definately not working for me in IDE mode, so i hope it works in ACHI
really dont want to go to a friends house just to do this firmware update
Here is the exact passage from the ReadMe (it is such a long readme that is is certaintly easy to miss):
BIOS STORAGE CONFIGURATION
This tool will only function correctly with the BIOS SATA ports
configured to "Legacy" / "Compatibility" mode, or "AHCI" mode.
Some BIOS configurations support SATA port modes such as "IRRT",
"RAID", and "Native + IDE" mode, which are not supported by this
utility.
Update error too for me : on my Vaio AW laptop i've got an "Intel SSD not found" message. I know that i should try to set my SATA mode from AHCI to IDE, but my BIOS only gives access to time, date and drives boot order settings.
Mailed support, hopping a less restrictive updated tool ![]()
It says "Intel SSD is not properly attached or disabled”
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P motherboard with the latest BIOS.
My BIOS SATA port mode was set both to IDE and to AHCI SATA without any success.
Why is this happening, and what can I do?
I have an Intel X25-M G2 80GB SSD.
You tried it both ways? If you did, try Legacy or Compatibility mode.
In my BIOS, under Integrated Peripherals, I have:
-OnChip SATA Type:
*AHCI
*RAID
*Native IDE
-OnChip SATA Port 4/5 Type :
*As SATA type
*IDE
How should I set those?
I have tried AHCI and Native IDE so far.
I don't see anything like "Legacy or Compatibility mode" in my BIOS
Can you help me please?
Hi, I tried the new Intel firmware updater.
I followed all the instructions, SATA set to AHCI and ran the updater.
It's stuck at "Scanning the system for Intel SSDs" for 30 minutes.
Anything I'm doing wrong? or should I wait longer?
I don't think it should take that long to recognize the SSD in my system.
I found somewhere in the README about incompatibility with NVIDIA chipset based system.
"The firmware update tool may not recognize Intel 50nm SSDs with
8610 FW when used on some Nvidia chipset based systems
including the Nvidia based Mac systems."
But, I'm quite sure the one I have is X25-m 34nm and doesn't apply to this issue.
Come on guys. Any help?
I've been waiting for ages for this firmware.
Now it's out and I still can't do it.
I've contacted Intel support but havent got any reply.

Yes, can someone please help us??
I have been waiting for this update, too!
I also had the "Error reading from drive A: Dos area : General Failure Abort ignore retry fail" Error .. after awhile i just rebooted the machine anyway and when it got to Windows 7 .. it said that the update was applied and asked me to reboot .. when i did i checked the BIOS version and it did in fact update .. SO you should check because i bet your Firmware updated as well
Native + IDE is not supported by this firmware update as I posted you earlier. The only setting I see that would work is AHCI since you don't have legacy or compatibility mode. I don't know your board, but I have an option on my board to use Legacy mode. I have a Gigabyte board and love it. Do you have an NVIDIA board?
