Hello,
I have a problem with my S5000PSL.
It is build in a Chenbro RM21706 case (other case) (example picture: http://www.chenbro.eu/assets/2008/08/13/product0802093571.jpg) with two
Dynatron H6EG (http://www.dynatron-corp.com/en/product_detail_1.aspx?cv=1-4-205&id=30&in=0) CPU fans.
The airflow of the cpu fans should also cool down the fb-dimms.
With full load, the fb-dimms gets up to 110°C, but the CPU fans dont speed up.
Is there a way to setup the CPU fans to have full speed the whole time? Or speed up on any high temperature?
Kind Regards,
Marco Balle
I'd be very cautious about chosing a Chenbro chassis that hasn't been already thermally tested by Intel. Check the list at http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/CS-022654.htm
You can manually edit the SDR to set the fans to always run at 100%, but it requires being fairly proficient with the SDR to do this without burning your system.
- do you have there the 4 chassis fans connected to MBD? they should do all the cooling work I suppose.
- have you properly updated the SDR? (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17926&ProdId=2305&lang=eng - check RELEASE NOTES before applying).
- you can change to PERFORMANCE MODE under BIOS->ADVANCED->ACOUSTIC AND PERFORMANCE CONFIGURATION. In this mode the fans should be always fast but I wonder whether you have chassis fans or not.
The Chenbro RM217 use the same cooling system like the tested RM216.
Yes, the 4 chassis fans are connected to the motherbord. The problem are the two CPU fans, which are running too slow.
I updated the SDR correctly, yes.
In the bios I setup the performance mode.
Now I have setup the SDR with a wrong information. I configured 6 chassis fans, but only have 4. With this configuration the fans are all running at full speed. I have also a fan fault warning because of my wrong configuration.
This is the only way I think to have full CPU fan speed without edit the SDR file.
- well this seems kind of strange to me. I have a PSL mobo at home and you should see the CPU fans how fast they start to spin when the temperature reaches just something up to 60-70°C and I have all set up to acoustic mode.
- I would try to re-apply the BIOS, BMC and FRU/SDR again(http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17926&ProdId=2305&lang=eng - check RELEASE NOTES before applying). Clear the CMOS by removing the small battery for 10minutes or more, do it before and after the update. Load BIOS defaults(F9).
- altho am not sure if this will really help you but I would give it a try.
- I suppose there is somewhere a cheaky monkey hidden slowing down the CPU fans
could you maybe post some pictures of the integration?
- also am quite curious if you have there any kind of airduct which leads the airflow from the CPU FAN to the memory, but this is just for better cooling down of the memory and will not help you with making cpu fans spinn faster.
- what is the actual temperature of the CPUs?
- where exactly do you have connected all the fans?

Interesting comment. I've been trying to get my PWM fan speeds to alternate depending on the thermal probes (closed loop) but without success. I updated to the most recent BIOS and SDR and selected the first intel chassis as I gathered that selecting non-intel chassis results in fans always at 100%.
Can someone point me in the direction of documentation of how to manually edit SDR without burning my system? (or otherwise get temp dependent fans as the original poster did?)
