INTEL DP45SG connections

New Builder....

INTEL DP45SG motherboard.

ULTRA  ULT 33187 case.

On the front panel of the case there are two wires: (1)  speaker and (2) HD Audio/ AC97. where on the motherboard do they connect? or  Are they really needed?

Re: INTEL DP45SG connections

I thought this was a good question.  If you are not a full time tech who knows all of the little things about boxes and boards it can be very challenging to get it right. I had the same problem with a thermaltake armor MX and my DP45SG.  I still don't think it's correct.

And now I will have the same problem with my DX48BT2

Re: INTEL DP45SG connections

One (the AC'97) connects to what is known as the audio header on the motherboard, which is usually a double row of 4 pins (eight total (::::) ). These allow you to plug in things like headphones to the audio jack on the front panel of your computer case. The other is for the internal speaker header (2pins) on the motherboard. Refer to your motherboard spec sheet for the location of the headers.  Hope that helps .

Re: INTEL DP45SG connections

If you look at the motherboard with the PCI slots at the top and the sata connectors at the bottom (i.e. you're looking towards the back of your case) the AC97 connector is on the left edge of the motherboard, near the top edge of the motherboard.  The connector is usually keyed, as is the pin header, so there's only one way you can plug it in.

It isn't necessary unless you want to use the audio jacks on the front of your case.
