Re: Ask an Expert – Intel vPro Expert Center

Is there a matrix that shows CPUs along one axis and chip sets along the other axis?

The the cells would say if the combination of CPU and chipset was supported. Then ideally each cell would also add a note on if Vpro is supported for that CPU/chip set combination.

Thanks,

-Tony

Hi Tony - Take a look at this doc: Order an activation-ready PC. If you don't see the OEM you are interested in, please let me know and I will track down the info.

Thanks!

vPro enabled motherboard doen't allow to access the CD-Rom when booting to DOS

Hello.

My name is Max Pavlov, and I am a developer at LiveRepair.com, Inc. We are working on a special software project that uses vPro SDK. However, we have noticed one very big problem:

If you are an expert, you will probably know how when the system crashes, we usually use some bootable media to start recovery process. Everyone knows the Windows 98, ME boot CD's. There are billions of modifications out there. DQ35MP motherboard, our test station, is the only machine in the office, that, for some reason, doesn't allows the CD-ROM support drivers to be loaded. We are unable to get the CD-ROM support in DOS mode on vPro machine. This is a disaster. Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Tony,

Although not in the format you specifically asked for, the comparison chart will allow you select multiple CPU models and then show you which chipset are supported. http://compare.intel.com/PCC/intro.aspx?iid=processors_body+resources_pcc

Re: Ask an Expert – Intel vPro Expert Center

Is vPro available on any of the E8000 series desktop processors or only on E6000? I am shopping for a new PC and see HP doesnt offer on E8000 but do you know if Dell or Lenovo can offer?

In response to "Is vPro available on any of the E8000 series desktop processors or only on E6000?" Yes vPro is available on E8000 series desktop processors.

Michelle maintains a list of vPro PCs offered by OEMs here: http://communities.intel.com/openport/docs/DOC-1420

AMT logs data question in SCCM SP1 (build 6181 or 6221)

All:

I have short question for AMT log data in SCCM. I can

use OOB console to connect vPro machine and can check AMT logs data in

SCCM (Build 4.00.6221.1000 or 4.00.6181.1000) Does SCCM record the vPro

AMT log data in SCCM Database automatically? If yes, how to general a

summary or report from SCCM console? If no, can we setup in SCCM and

make it happen?

Thanks!

Re: Ask an Expert – Intel vPro Expert Center

The AMT log information is read directly out of AMT memory and displayed using the out of band console. It is not retrieved and stored in the ConfigMgr database. If you wanted to capture that information and store it, you would have to use the Intel SDK to run a script that would grab the log entries from AMT. Then, you could add it to the ConfigMgr database. However, it's not readily apparent to me where you would add the data. Even though ConfigMgr's database is extensible in several ways, there really aren't any "import a log file" type functions that allow you to import generic log file entries and associate them with a system. The one place that comes to mind that may help is the Status MIFs.

Re: Ask an Expert – Intel vPro Expert Center

I'd like to know if you have seen this use case scenerio and if it is possible.

If we have a client system that is shared by different users, and we were to put theirUser ID's in the 3rd Party Data Store -- could we boot the system to the specific users image off the network (using IDE-R)?

Have you seen something like this done or do you think it is possible?

Re: Ask an Expert – Intel vPro Expert Center

It is technically possible; however, you would need to have the vPro client provisioned, have mechanism to load the UserID into the 3pds, and have functionality in the IDE image that is able to read the 3dps and make the logic decision. I don't know of any solution that does this today, so you may need to develop it yourself. May want to reference the SDK/DTK as a reference point if you decide to develop it yourself.

Re: Ask an Expert – Intel vPro Expert Center

Two quick questions:

1) Are there plans in future versions of AMT for SoL to work in graphics mode? It'd be like a iLO at that point and would make desktop support extremely easy.

2) Is the upcoming X58 reference board going to have AMT?

Re: Ask an Expert – Intel vPro Expert Center

Hi there, I'm really new on this matter and want know where can I start to study vPro technology?

I'm a IT pro that manages the assets (PCs and notebooks) with Microsoft SMS 2003 and actually implementing Automatos. Is the vPro about to work together with these IT management solutions or not?

Thank you.
