Based on the specs of the pro, it was very likely that it would support widi.
This new commercial all but confirms it:
Can't wait for Feb 9th.
Unfortunately, the Surface Pro WILL NOT support WiDi as the wireless adapter is the Marvell Avastar 350N wireless adapter, not an Intel wireless chipset. I got to play with the Pro at the MS store today.
This is a deal breaker for me and now I need to look at the Samsung Ativ PC Pro or the Sony Vaio Duo 11 (both WiDi certified)
While I cannot confirm Wi-Di support for the surface pro, I would like to refer you to the following two articles. The first is BetaNews reporting that Marvell has Miracast support on its chips now:
And the second is Anandtech hypothesizing about the wifi SOC in the Surface pro, assuming that it's the same as the Surface RT, that is the Marvell 88W8782, the very same chip mentioned in the first article:
I remain hopeful.
Unfortunately, at this point, there are very few Miracast certified adapters to choose from in the market place but I do believe Intel is now a WiFi Alliance supporter of Miracast. WiDi and and WiFi direct chipsets should work with all Miracast adapters in the future. I have no doubt that in the furture the Surface Pro will work with Miracast devices and adapters. However, for those of us who already own WiDi based adapters, sadly the Surface Pro will not work with them.
I also was expecting the Surface Pro having WiDi capabilities.... and it's a deal-breaker.
You seem to be knowledgeable about WiDi-enabled products. Do you know of any other products supporting Windows 8, besides the ones you mentioned (Samsung Ativ PC Pro & the Sony Vaio Duo 11), that have WiDi capabilities?
No, Surface pro doesn't support WiDi since now, because lacking of Intel Wireless adapter , but you can enable Wireless Display (WiDi) on Windows 8 computer. Hope the microsoft surface Pro 2nd generation will work with intel WiDI.
The only other hybrid that I know for sure supports WiDi is the Asus Taichi. I chose not to go in that direction due to the battery life of that unit.
FYI....I've had the Sony Vaio Duo now for a week and I have to say I'm thrilled. The tablet is a beast....and the WiDi is flawless. Digitizer pen is great, Battery life is comparable to the surface pro but has 2 full USB3 ports, full gigabit Ethernet port, full vga port, backlit keyboard, WiUSB, full HD display, Full SDXC card slot, full sized HDMI port, 8 GB ram, 128GB SATA3 SSD & Bluetooth 4.0.
Good luck with your search!
