I'm not sure but I don't think that P67 boards are able to support Ivy Bridge at all.
I see now what was wrong.

I used the compatibility table and did not see the CPU I wanted..
I did not realize Intel would release a board q2'12 that did not support gen 3 CPU's the crazy thing is, that board is still $200 or more everywhere...
So, I am ordering this combo:
Intel i7-3770 3.4 GHz LGA1155
Asus P8Z68 Gen 3 PRO board (board seems to be on back order everywhere)
Corsair Vengeance 16gb ddr3 1600
EVGA Nvidia GTX 550ti 2gb PCI-e 2.0 x 16
I would rather actually have an Intel brand board and CPU, but the Intel boards I found that will work with that CPU always have on board video (I don't want that) and/or are $400 or more.

If you're getting an Ivy Bridge CPU then I'd suggest you grab a Z77 motherboard.

I like the intel board more, but it has on board GPU
ASUS does not have on board GPU, which I prefer.
Do you have a suggestion between these 2 boards?
Intel has left a bad taste in my mouth with this motherboard purchase (DZ68BC). Onboard video depends on which CPU get. 
I would personally get the ASUS board. If money is tight and you want a lot of bells and whistles I'd look at ASRock.
If you prefer Intel Motherboard then if you don't mind Z68 Chipset get the DZ68ZV it does not support integrated graphics, plus its structurally identical to the DP67BG.

Initially i wanted to get the DZ68ZV i regret not buying it but then i bought the DZ68BC which since BIOS 0035 has issues tho its working and I'm currently running i7-3770 on it.
The onboard GPU is a feature of the i7-3770 CPU. The motherboard just outputs the video signal or not. Most Z68\Z77 motherboards make the build in GPU available as the cost to do this are small (compared to the overall board).
If a video card is installed most boards will disable the GPU in the CPU by itself. This can often be configured in the BIOS. The build in GPU can be used for video transcoding.
As already mentioned by others the Z77 chipset has replaced the Z68. It main new features are:
- PCIe 3.0
- USB 3.0 (no need for an external chipset)
- DDR3 1600 support
I am doing the majority of my shopping at micro center.com (still have to buy and pickup locally, at least mobo and CPU)
ASRock only gives a 90 day warranty.
Intel Asus and several others have 3 year warranty. I know for the most part, if it dies... its a power issue surge or under or over power. but gives me some confidence that a 3 year warranty is offered.

given those choices (don't know if the URL will xfer through, price wise... Intel is cheapest. but Asus gets so many good reviews. I have never really heard anything negative about Asus boards, aside from prebuilt PC's (HP, Compaq, Dell, etc.) I used to be a fan of elite group, but their quality is TERRIBLE now. heard MSI is not bad. Amazingly... the prices change on the boards almost daily. yesterday, the Asus board I listed above, was $124.99 after a $10 rebate.
ASRock boards have a 3 year warranty. Also worth noting ASUS owns ASRock but they operate independently of ASUS.
Positively skip the Intel board. If you do a quick search for that board you see all kinds of issues. I'm sure the same can be said at the other board's sites but I can almost guarantee you that they will work faster to correct issues.
If you can swing it I'd get the ASUS board. No reason spend all that money on a nice CPU/RAM/GPU/etc... to have the "brain" be a dud.

The BIOS release notes of the DP67BG do indeed claim that version 2161 introduced support for 3rd generation CPUs. As Intel doesn't claim it in updated technical docs of this board and on their compatibility cpu-board webpage I would be very careful.
In essence the DP67BG with the P67 chipset was replaced with the DZ68BC and the Z68 chipset (which is now replaced with the Z77 chipset)
