I've just downloaded and installed the ASC patch for Windows. I watched the script stopping and starting the IASC Service Manager service and can see that the datamanager.dll file in the root of the ASC folder has been updated to the June 23 version. Unfortunately I still get no mail alerts despite events showing up in ASC when I pull one of the power cables.
"As for the S5000PAL issue, have you tried updating the FRU information of the system board & then clearing SEL as well as deleting entries in the
IASC/MSM database ?"
Could you point me in the right direction for accomplishing these tasks?
Thanks.
Jweage, the path possibly goes back to the operating system as it is currently not supported (even if it is a derivative of RHEL).
Thanks for the log file, I can feed this back to see if there was anything we missed when we created the patch. Although I can confidently state that we did test the functionality and it worked in our test environment.
As for changing the password of IASC/MSM via command line, my understanding is that it is not currently supported. Good feature request though.
Jcfs, to update the FRUSDR of the board, go to http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19587&lang=eng , this is a system update package for the platform you are using.
To clear the SEL, run the SELVIEW utility & perform a clear function. Details are in the readme file.
On the IASC/MSM DB, go to the System->Events-> you can select all & then perform a delete function.
GuyE, thanks for the information, we will investigate.
Jweage, we did a test & generated a successful SMTP log.
Can you please also try the following command ?
telnet [email server ip address] 25 //the email server should respond as “ 220 xxxxxx ESMTP”
EHLO [IP address of the client has IASC] // email server responds as “250-xxxxxxx, 250-SIZE xxxxxx, 250 AUTH LOGIN”
If “EHLO” is fail, try the command “HELO”, or “HELO [client IP address]”
Here is the output from the mail server:
[root@vs2 ~]# telnet srv1.ansa-usa.com 25

Hi Guys, Any movement on the email notification issue? I'm still keen to get this going as ASC is the best server management product for our environment.
You mentioned in an earlier post in June that a new version was being scoped. What's happening with that?
Cheers, Guy
Hello, we have not released a new Intel(R) Multi-Server Manager version to date, the new version when released will be available at http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/server/sysmgmt
Hi All.
How about e-mail notification on ASC now?
I have installed ASC v. 5.0.0.15 on S5520UR with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition SP1,
64 bit and found that e-mail configuration in ACS do not work!
Our mail server on port 25 doesn't require authentication but ASC requires us to put something in username and password fields. Putting something leads to disconnecting the mail session.
Our mail server have SSL authentication on port 465 but ASC says error on typing "mailserver.my.com:465".
It is very strange for Intel corporation server product that it does not work, is not it?
It works the same in RAID Web Concole 2! There is the tickbox "Server requires authentication" in Raid console, why it is absent it ASC?
How Email Alerting works in ACS, and how I can configer it?
May be Email Alerting works in Multi-Server Manager 2.0b15?
Thanks.
I just patched IASC, and now I cannot login. After I press LOGIN; it's grayed out for few seconds, and then it returns to standard LOGIN screen. Shame this cannot be simply perfect.
Hi, As part of a repurposing project I've just wiped an S5500HCV server and put a fresh build of 2008R2 Std on it with SP1 and all the patches. It's a member server that's still in a pretty virginal state with just a couple of file shares containing data files but no applications other than RAID Web Console 2 and Eaton UPS monitoring.
I downloaded Intel ASC v 5.0.0.15 and installed it hoping for a fix to the v4.x email alerting problems already discussed. The installation was straightforward and I rebooted afterwards. The ASC console starts but no data appears. The Windows System Event Log reveals of the following sequence of messages:
1. Service Control Manager 7036:The Appcore service entered the running state.
2. ErlSrv 17: Appcore: Erlang machine stopped instantly (distribution name conflict?). The service is not restarted as OnFail is set to ignore.
3. Service Control Manager 7023: The Appcore service terminated with the following error: The process terminated unexpectedly.
As far as I can see I have a qualifying OS and hardware and have done things right. I've followed the readme instructions and UAC has been off from the first install. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with reboots in between. Same problem. Web searches on the ErlSrv error dont produce much helpful information and there dont seem to be any postings on the Intel Community boards. Any ideas? Thanks, Guy.
Hi,
I have the same problem as GuyE after downloaded Intel ASC v 5.0.0.15 and installed it the Windows System Event Log reveals of the following sequence of messages (every 4 sec):
My system is Windows 2008 R2 and board S5520HC
any solution ???
This maybe an issue with RAID Web Console & the Intel Active System Console inter-operability. A new drop/build (build 18) was just released @
MSM 2.0 – http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20996
IASC 5.0 – http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20994
Can you please try it out ?
I don't see any other discussions on this software, so I will start one.
My first impressions are that this looks decent, but the documentation is relatively sparse and I ran into a few problems. I have this installed on Linux.
(1) I can't find any way to trigger a test event to test out the email policies or email server settings. Further, triggering an actual event (suppy power failure) results in no emails sent. Log files are not documented so this is nearly impossible to resolve currently. Even looking through the logs that I could find, I couldn't find anything related to email.
(2) No documentation on which network ports are necessary for the MSMAgent. In fact, the MSMAgent installation on Linux removes all firewall rules! This is unacceptable.
(3) Mail server address field refuses to accept a '-' character in a host name. Must use the IP address instead.
This could be useful software, but currently it is relatively useless for actual system monitoring - unless item #1 can be addressed.
