Hi everyone,
Several weeks ago I posted a question about using WiDi with AVG Internet Security. The connection with the Netgear adapter was apparently being blocked by the AVG Firewall. I said I was deep into discussions with AVG Support, and that I would post a message here if they came up with anything helpful.
I'm posting this message so that I can feel I have kept my promise.
The email support folks at AVG stuck with me for about three weeks, and finally began to repeat themselves. So I left the emailing, and joined the technical support forum, where I was able to stay with one senior support representative. After about (another) three weeks, he basically gave up.
Somewhere along the way I installed a trial copy of Norton Internet Security, and its firewall worked fine. The Windows Firewall also works fine. After making all the changes AVG support had me make to the firewall configuration, all to no avail, i concluded the AVG firewall has a fundamental flaw, which no number of superficial changes can cure.
The only way I ever got WiDi to work properly was to uninstall AVG completely. FYI, I am now using COMODO Internet Security, and just as in the case of Norton Interner Security, WiDi works great.
I did have to make the same changes to COMODO's firewall configuration that WiDi Help recommends making to the Windows Firewall confguration, but at least the changes work!!
