I have some more data to share. I ran my computer all week with acceleration disabled on my RAID 1 array and I did not have the spin up / spin down problem. After a week of testing with no acceleration, I enabled acceleration and the problem happened within a half hour. With acceleration enabled, the first time the hard drives in my RAID 1 spun down to go to sleep, they went into the continuous spin up / spin down cycle after coming out of sleep mode. My conclusion is that the spin up / spin down problem only happens when I am accelerating the array with an SSD drive. I have not seen the problem as long as I don't accelerate the RAID 1 array.
Did you hear anything from the development team regarding this issue?
Greetings Traveler6666. In my application, I was using an SSD to accelerate my RAID 1. I found that when I disabled the SSD acceleration, my spin up / spin down problem stopped happening. Are you using accleration in your system? If yes, this would be a common thread between our 2 systems.
I have some more data to share. The motherboard manufacturer (MSI) provided me with a custom BIOS with the latest Intel Option ROM. I tried Intel option ROM version 10.8.0.1333 and the behavior did not change. I enabled the acceleration drive with my RAID 1 mirror and within a few hours the spin up / spin down problem happened. In this test, I was running the latest driver (10.8.0.1003) and the latest option ROM.
I'm having the same issue using Raid 10, Disabling the ssd accel drive stops the issue.

Thanks for the information Mike - glad I'm not the only one. I have not heard anything from Intel on this issue since Diego Intel said he would forward our concerns to the development team. I also do not have any solution or work arounds except to disable acceleration.
Since my MB disappeared during the repair phase, I bought a Z77 MB instead. And the problem disappeared with the same hardware and software config but of course the raid driver is now 11.0.0.1032.
I wish you good luck and kick intel!
When you experienced the spin up / spin down problem, were you using an SSD acceleration disk with your RAID?
I am wondering of Intel has a bug in the Z68 chipset and they are staying mum because they don't want to pay for a recall.
Thanks for the information that the Z77 chipset does not have the problem. I also have an AS Rock Z77 motherboard that I am going to install and test tonight. I will post my test results after I try the same hardware / software setup with my new Z77 motherboard.
Same problem on ASUS P45 PQ5-E - Raid 5 spin-up will not shut up as of a few weeks ago - updated from 10.3 to 10.8 on Win 7 sp2 - same bullsh1t.
I disabled cache but it's still doing it so I'll try rebooting because I have noticed that after fresh boot system is normal - its after coming back from SLEEP that this tends to happen.
No SSD involved.
Please fix ur mess Intel/Microsoft
Any update on this? I also have two 2tb seagates (green 5900rpm) and a P8Z68-V LE motherboard, and I get constant spinup when waking from sleep (only way to fix is reboot).
