For those who keep getting this problem and have to reboot to be able to connect to the widi adapter, try this:
goto Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections
disable any wireless connections which are labelled as: "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter". Intel my wifi should turn off. Now turn on only one of them which turns ON intel my wifi. (you'll have to experiment which one exactly turn on the intel my wifi). keep the other virtual adapters off.
now try and connect - it should work!
intel - why does this happen?
system this trick works on:
vaio SC series with intel 6250 card, netgear ptv2000
Thank you Electronicsguy, this is a good workaround for the problem.
We are researching why the problem shows up, because it happens only in certain systems.
Good to know you're working on it. I hope you can figure it out. I guess the timing for the address sent by the intel pan connection is not quick enough for the ptv2000 to get it.
related Q: Why do you use dhcp for intel widi? why not use static address? The dhcp using usoft's virtual adapters may be a good solution for connecting generic devices to the laptop thru pan. But to make life simple for people using widi, why not go for a static address?
Thank you for your response. This solution did not work for me. I think WiDi is not 100% compatible with every anti-virus/firewall program - at least that's what I've found. I purchased AVG Internet Security 2012 for my new laptop and WiDi still wouldn't obtain the network address through the AVG firewall despite all the necessary exceptions + I even tried permitting the local IP range for the D-link adapter. WiDi started working again after completely removing the antivirus program, and seems to be working through the free antivirus/firewall software through my ISP. So, I'm not really sure what else to say on the topic.
For the benefit of anyone from Intel investigating this problem, I just wanted to note this workaround worked for me.
