What operating system are you using? Also, is it a 64 bit operating system?

A check of Crucials Memory page for your board here: http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=DX58OG&Cat=RAM shows the exact part no you've provided as being compatible but how is ALL your memory set up on the board and what is the other (pre-existing) memory? Irrespective of your OS type, you should still get all your RAM showing in the BIOS, it's just 32 bit Windows won't access more than 4 GB of it. Have a look at the Intel page relating to memory for the DX58OG here: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dx58og/sb/CS-031879.htm to see if that helps.

I think all the memory modules have to be the same part number. As the Kiwi noted, are all your DIMM slots populated with the same memory?

Ok all the memory I have is the exact same model. I tried testing the different slots and it turns out the 2 middle ones, dimm 2 and 5, are not working at all. Every combination fails with having memory in those dimms. but in the other 4 it worked fine having a total of 8gb right now. Also, Kiwi I checked the second link you posted and it all matches up.
when i add the memory in those dimms it gives me and error code 16 or 17: SMBUS Drivers.
It's not that the memory slots are broken it's just they have to be populated a certain way. As this board has 6 DIMM slots you'd get better perfomance with Triple Channel configuration. If you had another two identical DIMMs for the remaining empty slots then you'd get 12 GB total memory and peak perfomance.
PS you may want to try loading and saving BIOS default values to see if that clears your error.

Firstly, make sure all of the DIMM slots are clean as even the tiniest contaminant (eg a bit of Arctic Silver) can cause problems. Also check the DIMMs are fully clipped in. If you are sure all of the DIMMs are fine (and you can check this by playing musical chairs moving them to different slots and noting the effect - if any) then try powering off the PC fully (unplugging from the mains) and removing the coin cell battery from the motherboard for 10 mins and then reinstall and load and save optimum settings in the BIOS when it next boots. If you are still not getting all the DIMMs playing ball, get in touch with the memory supplier and see if you can exchange them or at least get some help to diagnose the issue.
If definitely known good DIMMs of this type still don't show as 12 GB then it's time to get in touch with Intel re a possible motherboard problem.
PS you can edit your title in your original post to read 8 GB instead of 4 GB - I've sorted this post.
Alright, I will try cleaning out the slots, and resetting the bios. I have tried many times carefully reseating them in all slots and I know all the memory works, but I will call crucial support and see what they think. Thanks for the help.
