Hello folks,
I've been struggling to create a simple RAID0 array using the SROMBSAS18E controller. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but as far as I can see the RAID controllers utility is missing a menu, that I need to create the array.
I've attached two 750GB SATA disks to the controller. Both are recognized by the controller. I've also formatted them from the controllers POST utility, but still with no luck.
See the attached picture "disks" for the disks and the "menu" for the layout of my RAID menu. If you compare the "menu" with the "missing menu" you will see that I'm missing the "RAID Properties".
Any ideas as to why?
The controller does not have any HW RAID Activation key installed nor any RAM. Im under the impression that RAM is only needed when using the HW key?
Thank you in advance.

When you use SROMBSAS18E without a RAK, you can choose to use direct SAS connection or SAS ESRT2. From the screenshots you posted, you have chosen direct SAS. If you want to enable RAID, go to BIOS setup and choose Advanced => Mass Storage Controller Configuration => Direct SAS => Configure SAS as SW RAID => Enabled. The hit F10 to save and reset, press Ctrl-E during POST to launch the RAID configuration UI.
You may also want to follow the demo: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/CS-032119.htm. Skip the SATA configuration part.
Hello Edward and thank you for your reply.
I've tried to do as the you and the video stated, but my "Mass Storage Controller" option in the BIOS is empty? See the attached picture.
I've updated the MB BIOS to the newest and also updated the FW on the controller to the newest. I've also double checked that the controller is seated into the correct PCI-E slot.
I've also attached a picture of the information screen of the BIOS - just in case it helps.
Any other good ideas?

Did you try to update the SAS FW? Which PCI-e slot did you install the ROMB card in?
I'm not sure which FW you'd like me to upgrade. Can you be more specific as to which EFI file I should run?
If I'm not mistaking then I've previously run the "S5000PSLROMB.nsh" in order to upgrade the FW on the controller. That upgrade brought the FW to v1.32.00.
The controller is seated in slot 4 according to the S5000PSL Quick Start Guide.
S5000PSLROMB.nsh is the correct file. So you can see the Ctrl-C prompt during POST but the BIOS doesn't see the card? This is weird. Can you provide the PBA# of both the server board and the ROMB card?
Sure, here they are:
PBA for board: E11027-102
PBA for controller: D23589-306
Thank you for your help!
I am having the same issue was this ever resolved.
Join of the issue. I see in the bios is the same as in the photo Dfir. In the Advanced => Mass Storage Controller Configuration empty. My configuration looks like - S5000PSL + SROMBSAS18E + 2x Xeon E5405, the same BIOS ver. The controller does not have any HW RAID Activation key installed nor any RAM. The controller is seated in slot 4 S5000PSLROMBR. Only SATA hard drives in my 2x ST3250310NS
Hi folks
No, unfortunately this issue was never resolved. I never got a reply back when posting my numbers for the cards.
At least I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with this problem.
Intel, please let us know what we can do.
Did you try to update the SAS FW? Do you see the Ctrl-C prompt?
I see the Ctrl-C prompt. And SAS FW was updated, but another ver. See photo
Sorry I made a mistake - seems the SROMBSAS18E card on S5000PSLROMB doesn't have a SW RAID mode. It's either native SAS mode, or HW RAID mode (with RAK and DIMM installed).
I mixed it up with the ROMB option on the rack system like SR2500ALLX. Really sorry for the confusion.
