new build black screen
I'm a novice builder.
Put together following system:
MB: Intel DH67CL
CPU: Intel Core i3-2105
Mem: Corsair 4GB 2x2GB DDR3 1333 1.65v
HD: Western Dig Caviar Blue 7200 500MB
PSU Seasonic SS-300ET 300w
When I power on the fans come on, but nothing on monitor and no beeps from the board. I've put the memory one at a time in a different computer and boots OK. I've tried one mem stick at a time in this build with same result. I put HD in different computer and can bring online. Also put a different HD in new build with same result. So I'm thinking I have a bad MB and should RMA it. Anything else I should try? Am using onboard video btw.
Hi Sawbonz - Your Tech Spec calls for a minimum Power Supply of 460W. You can find that here. http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19488/eng/DH67CL_TechProdSpec03.pdf . Regards. Peter
Not easy to find that, but it says you need that much power if you are using a high end video card. I'm using onboard video. Also even with one mem stick and no optical drive connected it won't boot and no beeps. Not sure if that changes the power requirement?
Did you use a power supply calculator to determine the wattage required for your system? http://www.corsair.com/learn_n_explore/?psu=yes . Maybe you can borrow a power supply to check it out. Could you provide the part number of your Corsair memory. Also, you can check out this link. http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-010254.htm#powersupplyissues . Regards. Peter
memory = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145299
I tried the Corsair link and the smallest PSU it suggested was 430w. So I ordered a new 520w {http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151094} to give me a bit of a cushion. I'll repost when it arrives to let you know if that fixed the problem. Thanks for the advice and time.
Sawbonz - You should compare your memory with the specs in the tech spec. I note the spec said 1.5v and your memory is 1.65v. What you have may work but it is worth checking. Good luck. Peter
Well there are mixed messages about that. In one place it says there is an option to raise voltage for higher performance and as long as it is SPD memory that the BIOS will configure for optimal performance. I found another place that said 1.5v was recommended and default and other settings were for performance tuning only. It's a good thing I started with a cheap build.
I am guessing that the 1.65v will work because the timings will be adjusted from 8 to 9 by SPD. If you can exchange the RAM for 1.5v, I would do it because that is one less issue to be concerned about. Regards. Peter
So replaced the PSU with 520w one and replaced memory with 1.5v sticks. And no change. Fans spin, no video feed, no post beeps. I still get beeps if I pull all the memory. Waiting now for RMA MB and keeping fingers crossed.
