I have a PTV2000 Netgear WiDi box. My laptop is the Samsung NP350U2A-W01UB. I have windows 7 sp1 64 bit (ultimate). All drivers both intel & laptop as well as bios & PTV2000 is up to date. My reciever is a Pioneer VSX-1121-K(I just upgraded from TV speakers to 5.1 and the widi doesn't just work). The netgear is hooked up to my receiver using hdmi.
I notice if I connect the laptop to the widi adapter when the receiver is off it connects with just stereo for the audio, and it is much harder to notice the audio issues. However if I connect when the receiver is up it connects in 5.1 and the audio sounds very glitchy and unbearably bad. I notice the audio probelsm using the windows test speaker check of front right, front left or any other audio program. I do not have any audio issues if I connect the laptop directly to the reciever using hdmi or from my ps3 that uses hdmi, and think it has something to do with widi.
Can anyone please help with troubleshooting this problem. Any recommendations for settings to change either on laptop or receiver. Would be willing to test privates or grab logs as well.
Thanks,
Knic
I have the same problem with the static noise when using 5.1 audio. I have all the latest drivers and firmware updates. My setup is Netgear PTV2000 to a Yamaha RX-V3800 receiver.
Come on Intel.....please fix this issue, so I don't have to go back to plugging in a HDMI in the computer....
Well I restored the original firmware for the netgear PTV2000 (see step 12 http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/18962 )and it sounds much better in 5.1. I still swear it sounds much better stereo sounds better. But now I do not have to connect widi before I turn on my stereo. Is there anyway to force widi to only connect in stereo mode?
Hey all- thanks for bringing this to our attention. We're looking at options. Stay tuned.

That did the trick for me as well.....at least in regards to the noise. The sound however sounds very compressed....like a really low bit rate mp3 :-(
.....I just noticed that it now reverse the channels, so front audio is coming from rear speakers and vice versa. I guess it must be a problem with the PTV2000 and it's firmware. So I'll try with Netgears support instead.
Any update?
An update on my side, I retried updating the PVT2000 firmware to the newest released on 6/16/2012 (the firmware was 3.something.something) and the problem reappeared. Flashed back to the 2.0.0 firmware and it went away.... Would like to be willing to put out there that I can try private firmware updates to fix this issue.
Thanks,
Knic
