Owners of an X79 chipset mainboard need to use the new Intel(R) RSTe drivers (actual version: 3.0.0.2003 WHQL) instead of the RST ones.
Since the Intel(R) RSTe drivers of the v3.0 series do handle the SSD's as "SCSI Disk Devices" I am wondering, if these drivers really pass through the Trim command to the SSD. This question is only valid for Win7 systems running in AHCI mode.

I don't think this driver is compatible. I have an Asus Rampage IV extreme mobo with one Intel 510 SSD. The SSD toolbox does not recognize the drive at all. There's an error that says, "The Intel SSD toolbox can not communicate with the selected SSD. Consider changing to another storage driver compatible with your system and try the tool again." I have ACHI mode selected in the bios.
I have installed all the drivers off the Asus website for this mobo, and I notice that windows 7 64 sees the drive as a SCSI drive. I guess this is the issue, but I don't know how to fix it.

Although the Intel RSTe drivers v3.0.0.xxxx are designed for being used with X79 chipset systems, they definitively are compatible with all Intel chipsets from ICH7R/M up. Maybe the user has to add the missing HardwareID's to the related INF file. With my system (Z68 chipset and Intel 510 SSD in AHCI mode) the RSTe drivers v3.0.0.2003 are working like a charm.
The Intel SSD Toolbox v3.0.1 works with these drivers, but the "Optimization" button is greyed out and the S.M.A.R.T. data of the SSD are not shown.

This is a new feature of the RSTe drivers, but not a bug.
Nevertheless the question of the topic has not yet been answered: Do these new RSTe drivers v3.0.0.2003 support the Trim command?
Thanks Fernando. You have confirmed the issue I have as the toolbox appears exactly as you have it. I don't mean to hijack your thread as my assumption was that the driver does not support trim if the optimization tab in the toolbox is greyed out. But this may not be the case, it is simply an assumption on my part.
Thanks for your input into this situation. I will have to defer to someone else who may have more experience with this.

The "Optimize" button of the Intel SSD Toolbox probably is not available, because the SSD's are handled by these new drivers as SCSI disk devices and not anymore as normal ATA disk devices.
It is not clear for me, if Intel can/will solve this problem by a new version of the SSD Toolbox or by the next release of their RSTe drivers.
Yes, that's the issue, and whether the trim command is being passed to the drive with the current software with the drive being seen as SCSI per your original post. Hope something is done about it. Thanks.
BTW-My other machine has a 160g G2 Intel SSD and device manager sees the drive as a "disc drive" only. Nothing about SCSI of course. And the toolbox works here.

Are you sure, that there is running the Enterprise Edition of the RST drivers too?
Which driver name (iaStor.sys or iaStorA.sys) and which driver version version uses the Intel SATA AHCI Controller of that computer?
Actually, no. This machine is from 2009 and is not running the enterprise drivers. I just used this as an example of how a prior hardware setup with an SSD is not having the issue we are describing in this thread. And to say that the toolbox works accordingly. I have often used the optimization tab (trim) manually for the drive just to keep things fresh. I would like to have the same ability now. Don't know if it will happen of course. The topic of this thread are the brandnew Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise (RSTe) drivers v3.0.x.xxxx and not the wellknown "normal" RST drivers of the v9.x.x.xxxx and v10.x.x.xxxx series, which have a totally different structure (operating with just 1 single driver named iaStor.sys) and functionality (corresponding directly with the AHCI miniport and not via the SCSI stack).
All RST drivers since v9.6.0.1014 do support the Trim command, but we do not yet know, if the RSTe drivers do it as well. If the Trim command should not be supported by the currently available RSTe drivers, the X79 chipset mainboard owners with an SSD would be strongly affected, because they cannot use the "normal" RST drivers and are not able to run the "Optimizer" of Intel's SSD Toolbox.
Yes, point noted. Thanks for drawing attention to this. Hopefully, it will be addressed.
RSTe 3.0 does support TRIM on passthrough drives only. It does not support TRIM on RAID volumes.

Has anyone confirmed for definite if Intel RSTe does or does not pass on TRIM either to a pass through drive or a RAID volume? I have a single SSD installed as a non RAID volume and 2 x WDD 'raptors in RAID0. The trim command has been set correctly by Windows 7 upon install, but does the TRIM get passed on by the Intel RSTe drivers to my non RAID0 volume SSD? I find it utterly bizarre that Intel make this whole issue so mysterious, it either does or does not support trim in pass through drives/raid volumes. Can anyone clarify for certain?

I am pretty sure, that all Intel's RSTe drivers v3.x.x.xxxx do support TRIM unless the SSDs are member of a RAID array.
