Hi
I am setting up a bare bone S5520HC without chasis with non-Intel power supply and that's it. BMC is not used.
It works. But I tried Centos 6.0, Fedora 15, Ubuntu 11.04, Ubuntu 10.x, Centos 5.6, all came up with:
1. lspci -vv | grep -i ethernet
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Device 10aa (rev 02)
01:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Device 10aa (rev 02)
2. cannot detect these devices of course hence no eth0 and no eth1
3. tried to download igb-3.0.22 as well as intel-lan_linux_v16.0.tar.gz and tried e1000e, e1000, igb, ixigb.... whatever all won't detect this
4. guess 10aa is not a recognized PCI device ID for these drivers
Any idea? Need to upgrade BIOS?

You could try that, but I wouldn't think upgrading the BIOS would change the PCI subsys ID. What does it show up as under lspci, if you install RHEL 6?
10AA is not right. The LOM should be reporting as 10A7
Do you happen to have the boards serial nnumber off the mother boards label?
I've got Intel to ship a new board over.
Now the new board has 10a7, and driver works.
But new problem, RAM slot 3 not working, reporting failure, but still can boot.
So, now I got another problem and reported it again to Intel 2 days ago waiting for ... reply!
Single ram slot not working is almost alway a pin bent in the CPU socket when installing the CPU.
Given the way the CPU is seated, how can it be possible with ONE pin bending?

Did you use the correct tool to install CPU? http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/CS-032587.htm?wapkw=(bent+pin)
Usually happen om CPU insertion when the CPU is slide slightly to the left ot right to get it to drop in.
The gold pins are very soft
