After trying all sorts of complicated solutions, I found that by going to DEVICE MANGER, Selecting NETWORK ADAPTERS, I saw 4 adapters. They included, ethernet, wi-fi and 2 MICROSOFT VIRTUAL MINIPORTS. When I opened one, there was an option to ENABLE. Ah, joy. Once opened, I was asked if I wanted to download new firmware. Yes, I did. It took 2-4 minutes. AND NOW WI-DI WORKS!
I hope this will help someone else who has been thru the ringer with complicated solutions!
