Hi, does this come up everytime you boot(CMOS battery failure)?
Also when you chang ethe battery a month ago, did it work fine for a while ?
If I restart the computer, the setting of date & time remains Intact but
If I Shutdown completely (switch off ) it will change the date & time to 2008
when I changed the battery a month ago it work fine for a month but now again problem of date & time (eg it shows 12:00 AM, 1 Jan 2008)

the problem it display is cmos battery failure checksum error & date & time set up changes to 12.00 AM 01 January 2008 which system shows on the extreme down left corner.

I have the same problem and nothing and no one seems to be able to help - it is not the battery that much I know through months and month of research.
It seems like someone should have an answer this has never happened before on any of my computers? If I shut down completely my computer goes back to the actual date time and year that the compute was manufactured on - really wierd.
I use a surge protector and I have learned never to shut itoff it is constantly on just so I do not have to keep resettin the date time and year, very annoying.
i have intel desktop mother board .what do i do for CMOS battery failure although i have bought just 6 month back and have replace the battery once ten days ago.suggest the required course of action.
I don't know this boards battery circuit, but in general the cmos battery is used to keep the maintain the configuration settings when power is not applied.
Most boards only use the battery when there is no AC present. If AC is connected, the 5v Standby power from the power supply is used to power the cmos circuit.
If you remove AC as part of your shut down the battery will not last as long.
(but I would expect ti to be more than a month)
If the battery has any contanimation on the surface (usually finger prints) the battery will not make a good contact and give you problems.
Clean battery and contacts with alcohol and insert without touching surface.
There are a few reasons why a PC's CMOS battery fails in a short period of time. A short circuit to ground of the mother board will slowly drain the battery, even though it is charged while the PC is on. The short circuit can be very difficult to find. Check all the cables that connect to the mother board, and be sure they are not touching the case as much as possible. If the inside of your PC case is not painted, just plain metal, a short circuit is more likely to happen. Be sure that the under side of the mother board is not touching the mother board "tray", the metal piece just under the board. You can also look at the bottom of the mother board, and see in any long metal pins from the various components on the board are touching the case, or each other. If you find any, they can be carefully cut off with small wire cutters or a small scissors. The bottom of the mother board should not be touching anything.
It is even possible to create a short circuit between two traces, the conductors on a circuit board, by touching the board with fingers that are damp with perspiration, the salt in the sweat helping to create the short circuit. If the board has fingerprints, wipe them off with alcohol.
Finally, some mother boards have problems that cause them to drain this battery. If you search the internet about this problem, you'll find other people with this board that have the same problem.
CMOS batteries and mother boards can be strange, I have old boards that have the original battery that still works fine. I had a new board that had a bad battery the first time I installed the board.
