Is there any fix for this problem yet? I'm getting the same error message and am unable to use AppUp on my Acer netbook. It works fine on my laptop.

If you have not already done so, please try the latest version of the client from here: http://www.appup.com/applications/index
If that does not help, Please run the Intel® System Identification Utility and send results to appup.support@intel.com. You can find the SIU here: http://www.intel.com/support/siu.htm

Same problem here: 'invalid user name format'.
Please reply soon, I was enthousiastic about the AppUp, but my first step already fails...
Also ran the Intel SIU:
