Hello everyone.
I need some help. I'm building a new computer using Intel's DX58SO motherboard, Intel Core i7-920 Processor, 8Gb memory using two(2) Kingston KHX12800D3K2/4G memory kit, 500Gb Western Digital harddrive, ASUS Radeon HD 4870 graphics card, Sony optiarc DVD+RW/-RW and Antec 650 watts power supply. My problem is, the motherboard won't boot if I fill all the memory slots. It just reboots and gives me this error message: "The System BIOS has detected unsuccessful POST attempts. Possible cause include recent changes to BIOS performance option or recent hardware changes. Press 'Y' to enter BIOS setup or press 'N' to cancel and atempt to boot with previous settings."
If I just fill the 3 blue slots and leave the black slot empty, the motherboard does POST successfully and boots the windows operating system. The motherboard is designed to handle upto 16Gb memory, so 8Gb should not be a problem, right?
Any ideas. Your help will really be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Frederic,
The Intel® Desktop Board DX58SO provides four basic configurations for installing memory; Single Channel, Dual Channel, Triple Channel and Flex Mode. The configuration you are attempting is a Dual Channel configuration with four DIMMs. The requirements for that configuration include:
Take a look at the page linked above, and check your memory configuration to be certain it meets the criteria listed.
Also, are you using the latest BIOS for your board?

Casey,
Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I have updated to the latest BIOS. I have also change the memory since I found out the Kingston HyperX is 1.9V. I'm using now the Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/4G memory kit(2 of this), so that I will have 2Gb on each slots, same size and density. Still, I have the same problem. Fill all four(4) slots, the PC reboots on POST. Fill only the three(3) blue slots, the PC boots all the way to windows with no problem. Any other sugestion? I'm trying to get another motherboard(same DX58SO), to see if the memory slot is the problem.

Goodday everyone.
I just got a new DX58SO motherboard, and same problem still. I upgraded the bios to the latest version 3504, nothing. Motherboard still reboots at POST everytime I populate all memory slots. If I only fill the 3 blue slots, computer boots fine. I tried to reset the BIOS using jumper block 2 and 3, nothing. I tried to do a recovery BIOS, hoping maybe its a bad BIOS, nothing. It seems the board is only good for 6Gb of memory. But intel support website says it's good upto 16Gb. Anybody have an answer. I would really appreciate it. For now, I will only be running on 6GB. I'll also check intel's website, from time to time to see if they have a new BIOS release to support 8Gb.

Hello again Frederic -
We are working on a revised BIOS update for the Intel® desktop board DX58SO that will add functionality for additional memory configurations. I cannot provide a date for you at this time.

Casey,
Glad to hear that. I know intel will have the answer. I will wait for the revised BIOS update. More power to intel.

Frederic
Hello everybody, unfortunately I have come to this blog looking for an answer to the same question,
Two days ago I updated the BIOS for one of my three DX58SO and I met with the unpleasant surprise that I was unable to enter Windows.
After panic for a moment and think that was a mistake of mine, I realized that if it’s worked in DX58SO triple channel. Searching the web comes up here.
This error in the BIOS is very serious, I work with CAD programs and Render and I need to have at least 8 GB of RAM on each machine, for which 6 GB is not an option.
I am also pleased that the SLI is support on DX58SO now. But it is useless to me if I do not have all the memory slots filled.
Excuse my English and thank you.
I am having this exact same problem.
I am using 2 kits of kingston KVR133D3N9K2/4G for a total of 8 GB (also a CAD machine). When I populate three slots, no problems, when I add the last DIMM, it fails to post.
The very odd thing about this is, I built 2 of these EXACT same machines about 2 months ago, and they did not have this issue?
Now I have to tell the client they are getting a 6GB machine until Intel can fix it.
If I remember correctly...there is a statement somewhere in the tech documents of the motherboard to use only the "blue" slots...that means dont use slot #1. It has a different purpose. I found this out the hard way..like you ![]()
It is my understanding that this issue has been addressed with BIOS version 3828 as the release notes states below
"Fixed system unable to boot with x4 2GB DIMMs"
It may be necessary to clear the CMOS and/or re-integrate the CPU if the BIOS change on its own does not resolve the issue.
Goodday everyone. As I expected, Intel fix my problem with the release of BIOS 3828. DX58SO now support x4 2Gb DIMMS. Excellent job people. More power to Intel.
Best regards,
Frederic
