A. The Intel AppUp Center Beta is a service that allows end consumers to browse a centralized catalog of applications for purchase or download to their netbook or other personal computing device.

A. Applications are available for many different categories including social, education, enterntainment, communications etc. More applications are being added to the store all the time. The best way to see what is available in the Intel AppUp Center Beta is to install the client software and search the storefront.

Q. Why is the Intel AppUp Center only in Beta and how will this effect my usage of the applications I purchase from the store?
A. Intel has conducted validation cycles to verify the functionality of the Intel AppUp Center Beta client software.This validation includes the protection of user information entered during registration with the center. Known issues with the client sofware can be found in the known issues document on this site. The applications in the storefront have also undergone a validation process and have met certain criteria to be allowed in the storefront.

A. An internet connection is required to view the store catalog and to view or perform changes to your account settings. If an internet connection is not detected, the client will show the "My Apps" section where you will be allowed to launch downloaded or purchased applications.

Q. What operating systems are officially supported by the Intel AppUp Center Beta?
A. The Intel AppUp Center Beta is available in a Microsoft* Windows version with a Moblin version coming soon. The Microsoft* Windows version is compatible with Windows XP Home SP3, Windows 7 Starter Edition , Windows 7 Home Basic and Windows 7 Home Premium. For Moblin, versions 2.0 and 2.1 of the OS will be supported when released. At this time only English versions of operating systems are supported.

Q. Do I need a specific CPU or other hardware to run the Intel AppUp Center Beta?
A. The Intel AppUp Center Beta and the applications available in the store catalog are generally intended for use on netbooks using Intel® Atom™ based processors with 10" screens and default resolutions of 1024x600. The Intel AppUp Center Beta does not prevent installation or execution based on the CPU type, model, manufacturer and / or speed although systems must meet minimum requirements for the supported internet browser.

A. The Intel AppUp Center Beta and the applications available in the store catalog are generally intended for use on netbooks using Intel® Atom™ based processors with 10" screens and default resolutions of 1024x600.

Q. Do I need to create an account/login prior to using the Intel AppUp Center Beta?
A. No, the store provides an "Anonymous Session" for users who have not officially registered. Anonymous users can browse the on-line store catalog, but are not allowed to purchase applications or access other store features. Anonymous session users will see a "Sign in" button allowing them to sign in or create an account if they choose.

Q. How can I recover the password to my account if I forget it?
A. Click on the "Forgot your password?" link on the Sign In form. Enter the email address used when you registered with the Intel AppUp Center Beta and press the "Send" button. You should see a message that your password was successfully sent and to check your email.

Q. How can I edit my payment information?
A. Click on your username at the top of the Intel AppUp Center Beta client. Select "Edit Payment Options" A browser will open allowing you to edit your payment options.

Q. How can I change my store password?
A. Click on your username at the top of the Intel AppUp Center Beta client window. Under the Account Information section, enter your old password, followed by your new password, and repeat the new password. Click the "Change Password" button to complete.

Q. Can I setup multiple accounts with the Intel AppUp Center Beta?
A. Yes, You can setup multiple store accounts with different user information. Be aware that applications purchased with one account will not show up in subsequent accounts without repurchasing the applications. There is currently no ability to merge user accounts and applications, so single accounts are recommended.

Q. Can the Intel AppUp Center Beta be used from any country?
A. Browsing the storefront is supported from any country. Purchasing and download of free applications is limited to certain countries. The country is based on the billing address entered during setup of the payment options during registration. At this time, we are only supporting addresses and payment information from these countries. The current list of supported countries includes: USA and Canada.

Q. How do I register for the Intel AppUp Center Beta?
A. Download and install the Intel AppUp Center Beta for your operating system from http://www.intel.com/appup. Launch the store client and click on the "Sign in" button. From the sign-in screen you can elect to create a new account. Creating a new account will launch a browser and allow you to enter your user and payment information and complete registration for the store.

Q. Why do I need to provide credit card information if I only want to download free applications?
A. The Intel AppUp Center Beta requires payment information to be entered in order to download any of the applications (paid or free) found in the store. The payment information helps us to link your user account to a specific country location. Certain applications may not be permitted for download in certain countries (e.g. apps with certain types of encryption). Requiring valid billing information helps us to control distribution of applications to only those countries permitted to download and use the application. Today, only the U.S. and Canada are supported countries. We hope the available list of countries will expand soon, thus requiring us to put the above checks and balances in place now.

A. The Intel AppUp Center Betadoes not specifically prevent access to installed applications by other users on the same machine.The availability of an application to other user accounts on the same netbook depends solely upon the installation options available within a specific application.

Q. How can I cancel a purchase?
A. Purchases can be cancelled within the first 24 hours for the initial installaiton of paid applications. To cancel a purchase, click on the "Options" drop-down next to the application in the Transaction History of your account.

Q. Can I install my purchased applications to another netbook or personal computer?
A. Yes, purchased applications can be downloaded and installed on up to 4 additional computers. Simply install the Intel® App Store Beta and download/install the applications you want from your "My Apps" section.

Q. How do I remove the Intel AppUp Center Beta and any installed applications from a computer?
A. You can uninstall applications from within the Intel AppUp software client by clicking on the "uninstall" button in the application details screen. Applications are automatically uninstalled is you elect to cancel a purchase during the 24-hour trial period.

Q. Do I still need an internet connection to run my application after it has been successfully downloaded and installed from the store?
A. Purchased applications must run with an active internet connection every 7 days to allow off-line operation.

Q. Can I try software applications before I buy them?
A. Paid software applications downloaded from the Intel AppUp Center Beta for the first time provide a 24-hour window to use the software prior to charging your account. To cancel a purchase during the 24-hour period, click on your username at the top of the client screen and select the Transaction History tab. Click on the Options button and select "Cancel Purchase". If the "Cancel Purchase" option is not available, your 24-hour window has expired and your account will be charged for the application. Try and buy can be used only once per application.

Q. Can I get a refund for an application after the 24-hour window has expired?
A. Once the 24 hour period has elapsed, all application sales are final. For additional information, please refer to the Intel AppUp Center Beta refund policy.

Q. What should I do if my application fails to download/install?
A. First, check for the application under "Pending Downloads" and retry the download/install operation again. If the problem persists, contact Intel Customer Suport at http://www.intel.com/support/go/appup/support.htm. To make sure you are not charged for the application, go to your transaction history, click on the options button next to the application, and select "Cancel Purchase".

Q. How long does it take to download an application?
A. The tiime required to download an application will vary based on the application size and the speed of your internet connection. You can get some idea of the download time required by checking the file size on the application details page.

Q. Can my applications be automatically updated?
A. Application updates will appear for the ones you have installed. Available updates panel will appear and you can kickoff each update manually. For store updates, the user will be prompted upon startup.
