Purpose: Provide step-by-step procedures for implementing specific use cases highlighting Intel® vPro™ Technology.

Use case reference designs provide IT professionals with detailed step by step instructions for solving real problems in their environments by leveraging Intel vPro technology.  The list of use cases below will be expanded over time to include additional use cases, including use cases that apply to other ISV consoles.

Microsoft* Configuration Manager
These use cases deal with Microsoft Configuration Manager and Intel® vPro™ technology.

This Use Case Reference Design provides theory, references, example code and a step-by-step example of performing Intel AMT firmware version detection and updates using Microsoft Configuration Manager 2007 SP1.

This Use Case Reference Design provides theory, references, and a step-by-step example of performing an off hours, remote Windows* XP to Windows 7 migration using Intel® vPro™ clients.  Readers will gain insight into how they can use Intel vPro clients to enhance system availability, even during off hours, for the purpose of performing an in place, remote Windows XP to Windows 7 migration.

Help Desk
These use cases deal with help desk scenarios involving Intel® vPro™ technology.

This Use Case Reference Design provides instructions on using Radmin* (Remote Administrator) to perform basic Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) functions on a managed client with Intel® vPro™ technology, assuming the managed client is already set up and configured for use with a third-party management console.

Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) provides many features that can be used by an IT support help desk. For a help desk staffer to take advantage of these features, he or she needs a user account in Intel AMT. This use case reference design puts forth a framework for managing help desk staffer’s users and their Intel AMT permissions with Microsoft* Configuration Manager 2007 (ConfigMgr) and Active Directory integration.

Small Business
These use cases deal with scenarios involving Intel® vPro™ technology in a small business environment.

With the release of Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) 4, Intel® vPro™ technology added the capability to set up and configure PCs with Intel vPro technology locally using a USB flash drive.  For small and medium businesses that prefer local setup and configuration, this can speed up the setup and configuration process. This use case will demonstrate a simplification of this process.
