Customer Preparation Checklist for Intel(R) vPro(TM) Activation with LANDesk

The following checklist is for customer preparation to ensure the success of activating vPro platforms within the customer's corporate production environment.  There will generally be three conference calls. A one hour call to review the LANDesk Quick Start Guide with Q&A during the call. Followed some time later by a 3 hour hands on activation call where 2 laptops and 2 desktops will be provisioned. The final conference call will be to discuss use cases and what Intel(R) vPro features are most important to the customer. Activation Checklist

 

#DNS Entry for "Provision Server" (DHCP recommended over static addressing)

Create an Alias or Pointer in your DNS environment that directs ProvisionServer.fqdn traffic to your Provisioning Server (LANDesk Core Server). 

 

You should be able to resolve both the LANDesk Core Server server's IP address to ProvisionServer.fqdn and be able to resolve ProvsionServer.fqdn to the LANDesk Core Server IP address (forward and reverse resolution).  DHCP option 81 should be turned on.

 

#Platform BIOS

Install the latest BIOS for your Intel(R) vPro(TM) or Intel(R) Centrino Pro systems.  Consult your OEM (directly or through their download / support web site) to receive your platform's latest system BIOS.  This system BIOS may contain the Intel(R) AMT ME firmware.

 

#Platform Firmware for Intel AMT

Install the latest Intel(R) AMT Firmware for your Intel(R) vPro(TM) or Intel(R) Centrino Pro systems.  Consult your OEM (directly or through their download / support web site) to receive the latest supported Intel(R) AMT firmware (aka ME firmware).  Many OEMs bundle the ME firmware with the release of their latest BIOS.

 

#Intel(R) AMT Drivers and Services

Install the latest AMT OS Drivers for your Intel(R) vPro(TM) or Intel(R) Centrino Pro systems.  Consult your OEM to receive the latest supported OS drivers for Intel(R) AMT.

- MEI (aka HECI) drivers

- LMS drivers

 

#Firewalls Open

Ensure that your network and client firewalls are open to allow traffic on ports:

- 16992: Intel(R) AMT port for non-TLS communication

- 16993: Intel(R)AMT port for TLS communication

- 16994: Intel(R) AMT port non-secure SOL/IDER.  Also used for Provisioning from SCS to Intel(R) AMT

- 16995: Intel(R) AMT port for secure SOL/IDER

- 9971: port for communication from Intel(R) AMT machine during "Hello" packets

- 56666: SOL-IDER port for communication

- LANDesk requires other ports to be open for various functions.  Please consult with LANDesk representative

 

#SQL 2000 or SQL 2005 Enterprise

Microsoft SQL Server can be used by LANDesk to host the LANDesk database.  Check with LANDesk SE regarding setup

 

#LANDesk version 8.8 preferred

This is the latest version from LANDesk. It will support AMT 3.0 (remote configuration).
