Last November at the SC ’11 supercomputing show in Seattle, Intel revealed plans to triple the number of server motherboard and chassis systems we provide to our channel partners. At the time, we said we were getting ready to ship 8 new board families and 4 new chassis families for the Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 product family. This was entirely at the request of our partners who wanted a broader, feature-rich set of offerings to drive new business and better service existing customers.
It was a big announcement, but it was only part of the story.
On March 6, 2012 in conjunction with the Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 product family launch, Intel’s Enterprise Platforms and Services Division (ESPD) announced that the first wave of our new channel hardware offerings, are now shipping. Additional products will roll out over the next two quarters. And to further support the channel, we announced our Intel Enabled Solutions Acceleration Alliance (Intel® ESAA) is offering more than 50 new recipes and solution guides for the Xeon Processor E5-2600 product family.
Today at the Intel® Solutions Summit (ISS), we also announced a powerful new business continuity software product, the Intel® Server Continuity Suite.
First, a little bit about the hardware since that’s core to this announcement. The important thing for the channel to know is this powerful, flexible and efficient hardware portfolio offers partners a diverse set of solutions to meet almost any customer need, from small businesses to enterprise organizations performing the most complex, compute intensive of tasks. The boards feature intelligent modular designs for more than 100 unique SKU combinations, with Intel® I/O Expansion Modules provide industry leading I/O flexibility. Plus common power supplies and HDD carriers simplify ordering. The channel asked us to broaden our portfolio to help drive new business, and we assembled this “EPSD 3.0” offering to specifically address that need. No wonder we’ve already attracted a host of partners who are embracing the portfolio, including (but limited to) Appro, Bell, Penguin Computing, Seneca, Proactive Technologies, SuperLogics, sgi, and ZT Systems.
In addition to the hardware, Intel EPSD also announced innovative software to help the channel grow their businesses. The Intel Server Continuity Suite delivers software for managing both Intel® Rack and Pedestal Server and Intel® Modular Server products. It offers the channel and their SMB customers a low cost, easy to use server management solution that provides real-time, continuous backup, point-and-click systems management and easy to deploy virtualization capabilities. Aside from its ability to protect critical business information, the suite’s most notable feature is probably its very simple, graphical user interface – a single “pane of glass” that intelligently integrates hardware management, server failover, virtualization, storage, RAID and data protection management. All of these capabilities are tightly integrated and validated on Intel server boards and systems. And everything is supported by a single, trusted partner – Intel.
On top of the new hardware and software offerings, Intel® ESAA also announced a whole new lineup of pre-validated configuration guides ("recipes") for the Xeon Processor E5-2600 server family. Jointly developed by Intel and independent hardware and software vendors (IxVs), these recipes will help resellers maximize opportunities around this exciting new processor family – penetrating new markets and providing added value to existing end customers while also reducing the time it takes to deliver outstanding service and support. These new recipes and solutions guides have been specifically designed for the channel’s fastest growing segments, including high performance computing (HPC), SMB, virtualization, cloud, embedded and appliance.
We are incredibly excited by the opportunity this new EPSD portfolio provides, and we will continue to add capabilities over time to address the ever-changing needs of the channel and its end-customers.
