Intel IT tested the power efficiency and performance of 45nm Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor 5400 series for server virtualization and consolidation. The results found the 45nm processors up to 44% more power-efficient than 65nm processors. Intel IT concluded there is a strong potential of the 5400 series for server virtualization and consolidation. We estimate that a mediuam sized data center with 6,000 concurrent jobs could save more than $316,000 (US) annually due to reduced power consumption. Read the full results in this white paper.
