Last month, Intel introduced Intel® Anti-Theft Technology with support from Lenovo and Absolute Software.

There are various use models that this new technology enables, such as:

  • The ability to disable a lost notebook PC and the data on the hard drive even if it never connects to the network (based on IT policy)
  • The ability to send a "poison pill" so that the notebook PC is disabled, along with the data on the hard drive, if the notebook PC is connected to the internet
  • The ability to re-activate the notebook PC if it is found again

·

Watch the following Intel Anti-Theft Technology demo with Intel executives Dadi Perlmutter and Pat Gelsinger from Fall IDF 2008 and learn more about how this new technology helps with theft deterrance.

For a more in-depth demonstration of Intel Anti-Theft Technology with Absolute Software, watch the following video:

Listen to industry analysts discuss benefits of Intel Anti-Theft Technology and why this technology is an important milestone that will help with notebook PC theft deterrence in the future.

Listen to a Lenovo executive discuss the benefits that Intel Anti-Theft Technology will bring to Lenovo based notebook PCs.

Listen to Absolute executives discuss how they are taking advantage of Intel Anti-Theft Technology in their software and services.

Last, listen to Intel's Anand Pashupathy, George Thangadurai and Duncan Glendinning comment on the benefits of the new technology.

Another Add, here's Josh Hilliker talking about Anti-Theft Technology @ the beach.

I am so lucky to experience IDF (thank you Jason Davidson, Josh Hilliker and Kevin Ma). The atmosphere here is amazing. Wide varieties of people are here to enjoy what is new coming out of Intel. Opening key notes were invigorating and exciting. Craig Barrett kicked off the experience with his speech, "Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned," what a simple and powerful saying in Craig Barrett's speech.

Going through show floor area, where the majority of the demos are located, there is so much exciting new stuff, everything from virtualization to new hardware. Let me key you in on something that is going to big with vPro: remote help for your home computer. With this technology, you can have a key stroke on your PC, it will send a signal to several qualified providers that you can choose from, they will receive a code, and the one of your choice can fix your PC remotely. You would not even need to bring in your PC or have a tech come to your place of residence for most problems. Josh Hilliker is going to be putting up w a PDF about it here on the vPro Expert Center. Keep your eye out for some clips and more cool new features from different people on the Open Port site.

Here are some behind the scenes photos I took while we set up the Intel vPro Technology Zone on Monday 8/18. Josh Hilliker and the vPro Expert Center will be there. You will also find booths with members of the ISV community. There's going to be a lot of great information available, cool SWAG and some cool prizes for those of you attending who take part in our passport program. Prizes? Who really cares about those anyway. The real deal is getting to meet contributors to the vPro Expert Center in person! We look forward to seeing you there!

When you see this sign, walk towards it!

Our friend, Mike Baum, from the Ultimate Geek Challange helped us get a lot of stuff set up at our booth. Thanks for all your help Mike!

Here's Brian Brougham and Mike Baum finishing off some work on the registration laptops.

Here are all the registration laptops in all their glory. That blur of a man you see on the left side is Mike Baum, he's quick!

Here are some of our ISV booths inside the vPro Technology Zone.

A few more ISV booths.

Here are Michele Gartner and Leanne Marinace.

Here's Tom Wallington on the phone, cracking the whip.

Here is everyone as we finished up for the day.

For people wanting to learn more about Intel Technologies, the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) is a great place to meet engineers and have an in-depth look at many of the cool new technologies Intel is working on. Intel AMT is one of these and I will be presenting two identical hands-on labs that are two hours long each at the upcoming San Francisco IDF .

Using Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) to its fullest -

Saving time, Money and Power

Session ID: BDOL001

Date: 9/18/07, Start Time: 10:00 AM

Date: 9/18/07, Start Time: 2:00 PM

In these labs, we will have a room full of computers and participants get to try Intel AMT on their own. The plan is to start by covering the Intel AMT hardware, Intel AMT firmware and how it works, then, launch into the Intel AMT DTK tools (Intel AMT Commander, Outpost, Director, Monitor, Switchbox) and have a great time. I will answer all technical questions, and will also be available afterwards to help any developers with their own questions or projects.

I will start with slides that are much like the one are already public, but most of the lab will be hands on demonstrations and won't involve any slides at all. In the end, you may end up so jazzed about Intel AMT, you may end-up getting one as a home computer like I did. Since the lab is two hours long, we will have the time for more interaction and fun. I hope many of you will come and join in. Next month, I also plan on attending the Taiwan IDF with the same hands-on lab.
