Remote Configuration - RCT.EXE - HOW TO's.

Posted by Josh Hilliker on Apr 3, 2008 12:00:29 PM

How do you decipher RCT Codes? Great question. In the Intel AMT SCS Installation and User Maual there is a section of the document focused on the RCT. Here's the sample uses.

This is on Page 70 of the[User Manual.|http://softwarecommunity.intel.com/isn/downloads/Manageability/Intel_AMT_SCS_Installation_and_UserManual.pdf]

Also here are the Codes that come back after running.

If your receiving an Error #7 specifically. Here's more information:

ERROR #7.

Unable to connect to the SCS. This may be due to a number of causes, such as TCP error, HTTP error, or server not

found. This may result from:

• An incorrect FQDN for the SCS in the command line.

• A failed HTTPS connection due to a missing trusted root certificate.

• IIS is stopped on the SCS platform.

If you are interested in where this tool is located, Bill York explained in this post.

Hope this helps......

Here's a good gotcha.. If you use the IP address vs. the FQDN it may prevent the provisioning from happening. Therefore if you have tried this approach you will need to unprovision the machine & start over w/ the FQDN in the RCT string.

Error Code #7.. if your getting this error here are a few steps to check out.

1. Check the connection between the client & console i.e. use a ping test to start.

2. Ensure that the IIS service is running on the console. Easy way to do this is to launch the AMT SCS tool that will validate both that IIS is running and that the SCS service is running.

3. Ensure that your Cert is correcty loaded. check out the cert posts

4. Ensure FQDN is correct per the note above.

anything I missed please reply..

on #1 above I missed saying that I would recommend using vPro Packet Decoder to see what is happening between the client & console - it's another way to see the connection between the two machines.
