Intel's IT Utopia Means You Have a Voice

Posted by Bob Duffy on Apr 2, 2008 8:36:11 PM

Imagine for a second your a large corporation and you are going to spend millions of dollars to get a well crafted message out to prospective customers, then you decide to fire the copywriters and turn the site into one big brainstorming session where people express ideas like.

*"My ideal Utopia is when everybody is using Mac computers and finally everything works better in a Windows free world."

*"IT Utopia means that everyone can hack everyone, thereby hackers become useless. "

*"Sorry IT guys, but my idea of IT Utopia is no more IT."

Welcome to Intel's IT Utopia site. As one poster observed, "Interesting, like a faceless Twitter...". Thus this is not your typical Intel campaign. Companies like Intel spend lots of time and resources to protect and manage messages around a brand. And campaign sites are usually where marketing excersize these resources with great delight and great control.

However with the success of site's like Open Port and a growing online trend for IT customers to seek out support and information on online forums, Intel is hoping to be part of the conversational trend.

So while Intel is promoting products and techologies, I think some of the real there, there is that Intel is spending time and resources to integrate voices of the community within the campaigns.

So my advice for those who feel their voice is lost in small little corner of an IT chat room, go to http://www.intel.com/itopia and speak up.

New Product Development

Multiple Applications & Services

A new business model of convergence between common digital consumer products. First focus between PC and Mobile Phone. Cornwall has available r&d funds via EU to help establish new r&d directions in the local economy. Whether or not we are able to realise a project here UK will depend on sourcing some match funding from the corporate sector.

iCog

The cost of data transfer, the future introduction of viruses and the advertising intrusion factors have led us to propose a new mobile paradigm to split the functions into two separate roles. The mobile phone is invaluable as a communications device but it is becoming too messy as a 'solve all' solutions vehicle. We believe it should now be two separate devices, communications and data. Data manipulation at cognitive speed and interaction with direct connection to network only when transaction, interaction or control commands are absolutely necessary when mobile. Alternatively, our mobile iCog and mobile re-player allows us to continue doing what we were doing before leaving the office, to be continued again when the office or home pc becomes available. A large pc screen is the place to surf, preferably at home or in the office. iCog is our link between the Internet and the consumer whether at home or out and about. iCog is a new polymers coin shape object, embedded micro-circuit, pre-programmed or re-programmable convergence link between current everyday consumer products and entry points, like the pc, mobile phone, iPod, tv, and eventually pos and atm. We like to consider it as an intelligent multimedia link between the consumer and whatever the consumer wants to do. A kind of intelligent 'fridge magnet' which is used entirely by consumer choice. A personal assistant, in touch 24/7. It adheres to the host embedded data platform, powers and functions with immediate voice and data interface. No contacts or onboard battery needed. It can be made available sterile for certain purposes and is inherently secure over fast data in-out.

iCog is designed using high level heterogeneous multiprocessor design and manufacture tools around an fpga architecture. It will function autonomously or work in a dual micro processor role with our micro custom portable player. We have by-passed the mobile networks and we can begin to enable. Our intelligent interface is at a cognitive level much beyond the awkward 'click-click' approach via the networks. We anticipate being able to open the doors to true mobile multimedia commerce and applications in the areas of life sciences, distance education and reach-out. Music and dvd replay unencumbered by the operation of a mobile phone. For most mobile activities, it is not necessary anyway to reconnect in real time until the current session is collated and edited on the pc.

This is the gist of the technological, methodological approach we are taking and we believe enormous potential exists.

We need to make prototypes and secure intellectual property. We are talking with Filofax on the design of a first slip-in Player. We believe your 'Atom' Processor will be ideal for the iCog and rePlayer.

A copy of this email has been sent to INTEL Capital. However, in that we may not need to avail ourselves of their services, we will retain a serious interest in 'Atom' and we would like to establish contact with you so that we may proceed as soon as possible.

Best regards

Being online is very important part for customers and it's started very long ago.

Over a year has passed, and only now I figured out this feature exists! What a pity, Intel processors are the only ones I have been using for years! Will check this site, thx.
