Currently Being Moderated

Not even a week into our launch, and boy we are seeing many things we did not expect. One thing we did not expect is all the love from Russia. We have many Russian IT Pros out there who have passionately joined Open Port. Well, that is simply AWESOME as we say here in the land of California. I am very happy to see the international participation, and a key demographic audience, finding this site a place to have discussions on IT topics.

However I do need to explain this site has launched as a US/English language pilot. English is the core language for the time being, as we do not have the tools and moderation in place to support an effective multi-language experience. Language selectors and filtering are items we have planned for a future launch, but they will not be available for some time.

So for our international users, please continue to use the site. We welcome your voice and perspective, but understand this site is not well developed to support multiple languages.

My preference is to keep all posts and threads, especially the titles in English. But I am open to ideas.

So let me know how we can best support specific demographics on this site and make this an effective experience for all.

If u have russian speaking employee's, so they can try to make a Russian Open Port team, who chooses a group of users to start the localization... The community also need russian speaking moderators...

Better language tools and Russian staff would be great, and are things we will work toward. However the resources dedicated to this project are English based for the time being.

For now we could create a Russian or international sub community, if you like. Posts there would not show up on the Open Port Home page. However it would be a dedicated area for your commmunity to gather and discuss topics and share documents. However outside of that area we will need to moderate against English, and may need to enforce an English only policy for the rest of the site until we get language tools and multi-lingual moderations support.

Let me know what you think.

Speaking of internalization, the Intel AMT DTK is heavily community driven and I worked last week on the Intel AMT DTK translation kit, allowing anyone to help translate the tools (Intel AMT Commander & co.) to other languages. So far, English, Simplified Chinese and Japanese are available with French on it's way.

As I think dedicated localized sub-communities here will be the best solution.

Some simple problems can be solved in native language, harder things will go on international area not in raw and professional-translator-moderated.,

I think the best solution will be creating new website on .ru domain and the same site-engine as yours. I am from Russia and I ready to participate in creating this website.

From you I want only site-engine (or maybe I will use Wordpress) and link from intel.com, and some information support. If you are interested, please mail me and we discuss more details.

We are likely to establish various language experiences from this site so we can leverage resources, and allow our GEO managers to localize posts and respond to comments in each each language. See http://www.nikeplus.com as an example of a site using one system architecture but supporting multiple language experience. We do have various language blogs at http://blogs.intel.com on Moveable Type, but for Community there are many more challenges. If you are interested in supporting a Russian audience community, I would like your support. Email CommunityAdmin@intel.com and we can discuss some options offline.

I agree with you.

Each great and big international web-project must have russian speaking support.

I think there are many freelancers who can work witj your team.

I'm a native Russian speaker, and first of all I'd like to help you out with translation: awsome = здорово, классно, суперски. "Здорово [zdOrovo]" is more formal, while "классно [klAsno]" and "суперски [sUperski]" are purely colloquial variants. You can choose what suits the situation best.

I'm a freelancer translator, and I would be happy to work as a Russian speaking moderator for Russian community. So contact me once you need a moderator, and I will get down to work with pleasure at once if you like!
