purchased a new Intel SAS RAID controller and have tried to impliment some things with mixed results

Below are the details about the SAS HBA.

Issue:

1) Cent OS 5.3 Intel WebGUI won't see / Manage local HBA:

GUI launches but has no hosts to connect to.

2) ESX. I was hoping to use this RAID controller nativly with ESX VMware-VMvisor-Installer-4.0.0.Update01-208167.x86_64

It sees the 4.5 TB space but when you go to add the storage you it only displays "useable 554GB" and even from shell console, fdisk of the device shows it as 4.5TB but can only create a partition 554GB in size.

3) Documentation on RAID controller is a bit sparse in relation to a few details. Example: Getting notification of drive failure (predictive failure), is this reported throught the driver to the OS error system etc. and how to test this. Does the server install start a deamon / service /process ID that should be checked if you can't connect to web interface.

SE7520db2 - DDR1 - Boot problems

I rebooted my server with the original CD that came with the MB in the cd drive. I went back to the server room and saw it booted to the intel cd.

Steps i took.

I turned it off and removed the cd.
Booted back up
Now it no longer sees my SATA or SCSI during boot and also gives me a PXE04 and PXE05 error on post, i have reloaded the BIOS and this did nothing.
Loaded BIos Defaults set sata back to raid mode and still no post data for the contoller

Please help intel no longer supports this board. i called and they said maybe a bios recovery would work.

Any ideas this is gonna ruin my holiday!

Raid Web Console 2 on Windows 2008 R2

Hi,

Did anyone succeed to install the Raid Web Console 2 on a Windows 2008 R2 Server ?

I just tried on 2 servers and the installer fails just after decompression with a generic 1603 error.

I dug deep and it seems to be a problem with the InstallShield Scripting Engine.

I tried the same package on different servers and it only fails on 2008 R2 Servers.

I also tried other LSI based packages (older Raid Web console, Megaraid Storage Manager etc. ) and they all fail in the same way.

Any idea on how to bypass that installshield incompatibility ?

Intel SS4200-E: RAID 5 Parameters?

Hi there!

I'm trying to recover the data on my RAID 5 that was in my SS4200-E unit.

I plugged in the 3 working drives to a PC, and ran Runtime Software RAID Reconstructor on it.

However, I still cannot find the RAID 5 array, and is asking for some RAID 5 parameters:

Block Size: 4KB?

Parity Rotation: Foward/Backward/Backward(Dynamic Disk)??

Start Sectors to probe: (it auto-suggested 7,15)

Number of Sectors to probe: (it suggested 10000)

Or does anyone know of another utility that might be able to recover the data from the RAID5 disks?

Any help is greatly apprecaited!

CPU for LGA775 Fileserver

I try to repost my query which wasn´t much frequented in the Processor Section:

At the moment I´m building a Fileserver for approx. 5 users, so far the system looks like this:

Intel S3210SHLC

4x1GB DDR2 ECC Micron

main purpose is fileserving, backups and encryption via Truecrypt.

As Truecrypt multithreads very well I´m looking for a decent Quad-Core for enough troughput. I´m pondering now between the Intel Xeon X3330

(2,66 Ghz / 6MB / 1333FSB) and the X3350 / X3360 ( with 12MB L2 Cache)

Would the difference between 6 and 12MB L2 Cache be noticeable? The price premium for the 12MB L2 model would be around ~ 70€ , so it is a big difference (almost 50% more expensive than the 6MB model)

I appreciate any help.

SE7520BD2 and FRU/SDR - no fan throttling

Hello,

i tried to flash the FRU/SDR on my SE7520BD2 (DDR2) a million times with various fan configurations but nothing seems to get down the CPU fan speed.

The chassis is a chenbro SR107. Two front fans are connected at FAN1 (3pin) and one rear fan (3pin) is connected at port 5. There are 2 Intel Boxed CPU-fans (4pin) installed. FAN1 + FAN5 i selected as "analog" fans in FRU/SDR update. For CPU1+2 fan i tried digital and analog fan - same result.

I know the chassis is validated and i've seen much Boards working fine with this chassis. So what can be the problem?

There is an IMM Advanced installed. I also flashed the latest BIOS and BMC using the latest update package. This worked fine.

PS: I also tried to flash with no chassis fans connected - just the both CPU fans, but that did not change anything.

Any ideas?

Those fans are really annoying ;-)

S5000PSL / IRMM2 virtual DVD problem

Hi I am installing W2K8R2 on a system with a S5000PSL board.

I am using the IRMM2 virtual ISO mount option to mount the W2K8R2 DVD ISO image.

I have two problems:

1. The system will boot from the virtual DVD, but during the installation Windows will report an error that the CD/DVD driver cannot be loaded.

2. If I later want to read data from the mounted DVD, the mounted filesystem is not UDF, and all I see is the ISO9660 text file that tells me I need to look at the DVD using an OS that supports UDF.

I had to install W2K8R2 by copying the DVD contents to a USB key.

Are there any solutions to improving the virtual ISO mounting?

WinSrv 2008 R2 and Intel Pro/1000 GT quad-port nic, slow iscsi format.

We have two (2) Windows 2008 R2 Servers with the Intel Pro/1000 GT Quad Port server adapter. They are both connected to a SAN through iScsi connections, but when we format a 600gb drive on the lun, we get around 6-10 IO/sec. Total format time of the 600gb is around 7-8 minutes.

We have forced the 2008 Intel drivers to control the cards, as well as the “in box” Microsoft drivers for the cards, without any luck. All the drivers we have tested resulted in the same numbers for formatting.

On a side note, we hooked up a Windows 2008 Server to the same lun and formatted the 600gb partition in a matter of seconds, with the intel drivers installed.

Anyone else seen this with their cards, and have a fix ?

Hi Guru's and trouble-shooters, we’ve had this server for some time now and it's been slowly tearing a hole in our eardrums. The fans, they won't slow down. I've searched the internets and this forum and tried every suggestion I’ve come across but still no cake.

What am I doing wrong?

I have managed to load BIOS update (BIOS_P03.zip) with success.

I have also tried to install BIOS update (BIOS_P82.zip) but failed due to a RomID error.

I also attempted and failed at these fix's/update from searching the Intel website downloads for my server board.

(P09BIOS.zip) Intel(R) Server Board SE7520BD2 BIOS Build 0075

I found the Intel server configuration wizard and ran that, but get a password mismatch error at the business end...

Trouble is, there has never been a password set, and I have tried doing both password clear jumpers and BIOS clear jumper sequences, and i still get asked for the password in the configuration wizard.

I do not see anything to do with acoustic management or fan speed in the BIOS.

I am running Ubuntu Karmic Koala, lm-sensors can detect the pc87427 device, and display the following constantly.

>fan4: 5555 RPM (min = 0 RPM)

>fan8: 5672 RPM (min = 0 RPM)

I believe this is a read only module as this chip is yet unsupported by Linux. So a software solution won't work.

It’s also worth mentioning, that not all fans in the system stay at 100% after power up.

I hear the internal system fans slow down, these are connected via a 6p/5c connecter.

The rear fans connected via 3p/3c connectors. All fans have two plugs (for compatibility I assume),

A 3p/3c and a 6p/5c. I could change the rear fans from SYSFAN5 & SYSFAN6 to CPUFAN1 & CPUFAN2, but the CPU fan sockets are a 4pin, not a 3 or 6 like the fans are. (No CPU fans are fitted, there is a duct to the rear two fans)

Any help would be muchly appreciated, and sorry for the large post, I just figured I’d cover what I had tried.

Trying to update Bios on SE7520BD2-DDR1

I have downloaded the version 9 bios for the se7520bd2 and in the readme is states

1. Extract Floppy.zip to a temporary folder.
2. Insert blank floppy diskette in drive A:
**NOTE** : All Data on floppy diskette will be destroyed!
3. Run "MAKEFLPY.bat" to create two BIOS Update floppy diskettes.

Except in the download there are only 3 files and no makeflpy.bat

sbd2a075.rom

other instructions say...

Extract BIOS.ZIP to a bootable storage such as USB DISK-ON-KEY.

How do i make this bootable USB key they call for
