Random drive fails with new Matrix Storage Manager 8.9

Problem happened on the OS array so far when using Matrix Storage Manager 8.9.0.1023.

Here's what happened I downloaded, installed and rebooted to the newest Matrix Storage Manager 8.9.0.1023 then Winkey + L to lock computer over night. The next day a drive failed listed as port 1 in the console I know I should of replaced the drive but I did a rebuild and run a Volume Verification and Repair and got no errors.

Thinking it was fine I Winkey + L to lock computer over night again but the next day a drive failed BUT this time on port 2 in the console!

I have now reinstalled back to Matrix Storage Manager 8.8.0.1009 and rebuilt the array and run a Volume Verification and Repair with no errors and see if a drive fails to night.

So could their be a problem with the new Matrix Storage Manager RAID driver or could my OS array be about to fail?

The only way this will get resolved/looked at is if anyone here that went from Matrix Storage Manager 8.8 to 8.9 with a random drive failure when the drive is fine after going back to 8.8 for a week or more please do report this to Intel here:

• Intel has confirmed an issue with the firmware update process for 34nm (G2) Intel® X25-M SSDs (80GB and 160GB). This predominantly affected Windows* 7 (64bit) users during or immediately after the upgrade process to 02HA firmware using the firmware update tool (version 1.3). Intel plans to release a fix for this issue by the end of November 2009.

• Please see below to decide what you should do:

• If you have not upgraded to 02HA but using 02G2 or 02G9 – then use new tool when available to upgrade to new firmware to get Trim support and better sequential write performance (160GB)

• If you have successfully upgraded to 02HA - then continue using the SSD, there are no known issues.

• If you have received a SSD with 02HA pre installed – then continue using the SSD, there are no known issues.

• If you have unsuccessfully upgraded to 02HA - then contact Intel Customer Support for instructions on how to recover the SSD via secure erase or return SSD to Intel for replacement or refund.

TRIM update hosed my Windows 7 install

Just did the firmware update and it hosed my Windows 7 installation. The updater showed a successful firware update. Initially the computer booted just fine, but once I was within Windows it installed some drivers and asked for a reboot. That's when the trouble started. Now the drive won't boot Windows 7 anymore. I don't know if it's a Dell problem or Intel problem. The Dell BIOS claims a SMART error. I have a Dell XPS 8000.

how can I increase endurance of X25-M by slightly lowering it's capacity?

"Intel says that you can increase endurance of the X25-M by 3.5X by lowering its capacity slightly".

Anyone knows if it's really the case and how exactly it's done?

Intel X25-M G1 80GB SSD hangs/freezes in Windows 7

About a week ago, I bought Intel X25-M SSDSA2MH080G1 80GB SATA II MLC from NewEgg.com.

I plugged in the new SSD as my main (OS) drive (all my specs are in my sig.) and started installing Windows 7. During install I split the drive into 2 partitions: 20GB for win7 & the rest. On the first attempt win7 install froze at "completing installation" stage, iirc. As it was only my 2nd attempt to install windows 7, and first attempt to install it on the desktop pc, I waited for it to "unfreeze" or continue for ~30 min. Finally I gave up and had to push the reset button. I did my first windows 7 install that very same day on my Acer AO751h netbook and it went smoothly and pretty **** fast (and is still working perfectly).

On the second attempt I was able to install windows 7 successfully. I deleted partitions during second install and recreated/formatted only 1 partition 20GB for win7. The 2nd partition I created/formatted already in windows 7. Just after installation, on my first log in to windows 7, I installed Acronis True Image Home 2009 and tried to create an image of my fresh win7 OS partition. That is something I always do, I like having last fresh windows install image for quick "fresh restore", especially in this case, as I knew there are numerous tweaks to be made, to optimize SSD drive usage. Creating the image failed, as True Image software froze and shortly after-wards windows completely froze as well. At that point I had 5 Seagate 1.5TB (ST31500341AS) drives connected to my pc. Knowing the story behind those drives and from my own experience (from the 17 Seagate 1,5TB drives I had, 2 developed freezing/hanging problems), I obviously suspected the problem was one of them. I disconnected all drives, but Intel's SSD and tried to make partition image again. I probably tried 5-6 times and all attempts failed. By now I wasn't sure, maybe True Image was not working properly on windows 7, so I gave up on making image. I used windows 7 for a couple of days, applied tweaks for SSD, like moving paging file, temp files, disabling system restore, hibernation, indexing, superfetch, defrag, firefox memory cache, etc. Windows 7 was flying, I was ecstatic seeing the performance of windows. Though time from time, windows would just freeze up and nothing helped, but the reset button.

I started googling for solutions. All I could find, that maybe Intel SSDs have trouble with nForce chipsets (ironically, neweeg product review that was posted just yesterday put me on this track).

The questions I would like to ask:

What software should I use to diagnose this SSD? I could not find any tools on Intels site, and googling for SSD diagnostic tools gave me nothing.

Is the incompatibility of nForce chipset an Intel SSD the main and only reason for these hangs and freezes? Does the new G2 drives have this problem as well? If it is, I need to think about returning this drive.

Any other ideas/solutions?

I'd be very disappointed to return it, after experiencing the performance boost it delivered, when it was working

Do Intel's new RST AHCI/RAID drivers support TRIM?

Win7 users with an Intel chipset mainboard and Intel X25-M 2G SSD's, who successfully have flashed the actually withdrawn Postville SSD Firmware, want to take advantage of the TRIM command support, but there still are some restrictions:

1. Intel's Matrix Storage Manager drivers (last official v8.9.0.1023) do not support the TRIM command. The only available SATA drivers, which do fully support the TRIM command, are the Win7 generic MS IDE/AHCI drivers.

2. SSD's running in "RAID Mode" neither do support the TRIM command nor can be "cleaned" by Intel's new SSD Toolbox.

So here is my question:

Do or will the upcoming Intel AHCI/RAID drivers of the Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology (RST) support the TRIM command?

I ask this, because I am already running the brandnew and WHQL certified RST driver v9.5.0.1037 (available at Station-drivers since 13th October) with my 2x160 GB Intel Postville SSD RAID0 system and got a really amazing performance boost.

Question about Intel Celeron 900 vs Pentium

I bought a new Toshiba laptop yesterday with an Intel Celeron 900 2.2 GB processor. I plan to use it for home spreadsheets, word docs, and games found on Facebook. I couldn't figure out why it was so cheap and one of my friends mentioned it doesn't compare to the Pentium processors. I'm wondering if anyone would know if this Celeron processor will be sufficient to do the above activities or should I return the laptop. I haven't got it connected to my WiFi yet, but if it's not fast enough, I don't want to bother. I got the laptop for $348 at WalMart, has a 250 GB HDD & 3 GB memory. Any expert or semi expert opinions would be greatly appreciated. I also tried to search to see where this processor would compare to a Pentium - i.e. would it be a Pent. III comparison?

dp45sg Motherboard spontaneously reboot, and windows freezes

Hi all

First off all don't pay attention for my bad English, i do my best.

I have build my own system with the above named motherboard. I have installed Windows Vista 64 Ultimate because i want to use 8 GB memory for my games. But after several weeks windows randomly freezes or reboots. When it freezes i can't do anything, i can't move the mouse. Than i have to reset my computer. It's different when the system reboots or hangs, it will happen when the computer just turned on and i start the Internet explorrer, or it will run for an hour or more. I have checked the cpu temperature and it's good idle and when i play a game. I did a memory check, changed/removed hardware, but nothing will fix my problems.

My system specs

Motherboard: Intel DP45SG

Cpu: Quad core Q9650

Memory: 2x Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/4G

Video: 2x ATI HD 4870 X2 in Crossfire mode

Audio: Onboard

PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower CM 850 Watt

The bios and all the drivers are up to date.

Which processor is what??

I have been doing some research for buying a laptop. I have come across all kinds of processors - and I have no clue which is better than which.

Some of the processors I have come across are:

Pentium T4200, SU2700

Pentium Dual Core Mobile T3400, T4300

Core 2 Duo T6500, T6400, T6600, T5800

Celeron Dual Core T1600

Celeron Dual Core Mobile T3400

Atom N280, Z520

What is the difference between all of them?

I have not been able to locate most of these on the sites. Names of the processors are as were given by the laptop manufacturers.

The laptop will be used for the Internet thru Wifi, Microsoft Office, viewing photos and other basic stuff - nothing fancy.

Do I even need to worry about the processor for such basic use?

I am thoroughly confused and have no idea of processor hierarchy anymore!!

Please help me!!!

X25-M Firmware

Hey everyone.....my first post! ( round of applause please ) :-)

Right, Intel promised us a re-release of the Firmware Update (& SSD Toolbox) by the end of this month, how likely will this be considering we only have 6 days left? When I got my X25-M G2, the Windows Experience Index in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit gave it a 7.8...........BUT, I had to do a reformat and reinstall due to some issues with SQL, and now it only scores a 7.6. Is this normal? And will the new TRIM functionality get it back to original score? Im guessing the reformat didn't necessarily wipe all blocks and thats what causing the slight score downgrade? The drive is still obtaining 240-250mb/s though.

SSD Benefit In Digital Photo Professional?

Greetings Intel forumers,

I had a quick question regarding looking into the X25-M G2 160GB Drive. Although many sites give excellent benchmarks on how great these drives appear, none have really gone into detail regarding specific photo-editing tasks outside of Photoshop.

For anyone that uses and exports from Canon's Digital Photo Professional, I was really wondering how much faster the SSD would be in exporting say, Jpegs from the orginal RAW files from a Canon 5D Mark II.

A typical client of mine generates a data folder of 60-70+ GB and to handle the proofing exports with my current 1TB Western Digital drive (presuming 7,200RPM), it can take almost a day.

I am wondering if I took a batch of the photos and copied them to the SSD, would exporting them go any faster? I know it would be writing to the disk a lot but I figure I could copy batches to and from the SSD to go through a client's set of photos rapidly - well, hopefully more rapidly than letting the HDD grind all night / day.

DG45FC drivers SATA/ICH10 for 32bit WinXP

I am unable to install WinXP, as I get a Blue Screen of Death over error 0x0000007B after the text-mode part of the install reboots, the Windows XP graphical logo appear on a black backaround for maybe 10 seconds (indicating it is booting up). Then the Blue Screen of Death.

Research indicate this is due to a lack of storage controller driver for the System Disk (C:).

I have tried the motherboard in with Legacy and Normal mode (it make no difference). I am using an F6 text-mode driver, without it no disk are found at all.

I have been to the driver download and downloaded the latest drivers, but they do not work, here is my understanding of why they don't work.

I have sucessfully installed Linux on this same box and also Vista. Linux installed without any hitch, Vista only required the motherboard be setup to "Legacy"mode in order to install, then I installed the Intel drivers from the CD/website (both work fine). Then I can switch it to non-Legacy mode in BIOS and Vista continues to work fine.

Now under Linux and Vista the PCI IDS for the chipset are:

"Intel(R) ICH10 Family 2 port Serial ATA Storage Controller2 - 3A26" => PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3A26&.....

"Intel(R) ICH10 Family 4 port Serial ATA Storage Controller1 - 3A20" => PCI\CEN_8086&DEV_3A20&.....

However if I examine the IASTOR.INF and IAAHCI.INF that claim to be the driver for this ICH10 chipset I can not set any refence to the above PCI IDS.

So my guess at why they don't work is because the PCI_xxxx&DEV_yyyy numbers arenot in the respective *.INF files of the drivers that claim to support that board/chipset.

FYI - I have also performed a BIOS flash update to the current version, since I found a few issues myself when rebooting, these issues were listed in the release notes of the BIOS updates, the original BIOS vesion was the RTM (Release To Manufacturing) for this board, i.e. from 12 month ago (Jun 2008).

Any suggestions of toughts on getting WinXP to install. I understand the technical issue with supporting Windows XP (due to it being pre-SATA) but usually the approach I am taking by providing F6 drivers or slipstreaming driver into the WinXP I386 folder normally work. But I think Intel have made a mistake with this one.

Sonic Focus driver

During a Windows XP update, something happened and I got BSOD. After that, one of my programs said I needed "Sonic Focus drivers" etc. I have traced that to Intel Audio Studio, which will not execute...same message...need Sonic Focus drivers.

I have checked the Intel driver update for my board (D975XBX) and located the update that also re-intalls Audio Studio (

Audio: IDT* 92XX Driver5790.3v225/22/2008). The release notes say that

2. Intel Audio Studio does not support over-install or repair features. When update Intel Audio Studio, you must first uninstall the current driver before installing the new version.

Well, I don't think the driver is there anymore since I get this message that I need to install the driver, but I am not sure. Further checking of the Intel site to find where the driver might be didn't really help (e.g. device manger -- audio -- a bunch of codec stuff none of which is "sonic focus" and all of which is supposedly "working properly."

So, can I install this new driver? Do I need to unistall Audio Studio first?

Can I install windows7 now and somehow install trim when it's released, or does it require formatting the disk? Or should I wait for the trim, and install it in my vista with the empty SSD hooked up and then format and install w7?

How do I determine what firmware version is on this new X-25M SSD?

I just received a newly purchased X-25M G2 60Gb SSD from Mwave.

How do I determine what firmware is installed on it? I'd rather know for sure before I begin installing Windows on it.

Will I see the firmware version during boot-up, as it's identified by the BIOS on my Asus p7p55d EVO? Or can I find it in the BIOS itself?

Or must I download/install/use the soon-to-be-available SSD Toolbox? Or is it hidden in its serial number?

DG45ID IDT audio not working

Greetings,

I am running XP Pro sp3 on a DG45ID board and I cant get the audio to work (new build, homebrew) I have tried the stock drivers that came with the MOBO and the upgraded drivers as well. I have made sure all audio is on and configured correctly in BIOS. I have disabled and re-enabled the HD audio for the HDMI (that Im not using). I have unplugged all speaker connections, restarted the PC, and plugged in each so they can be seen by the auto detect (which worked). I have used the control panel below to verify each speaker is attached to the correct jack and tested each correctly as seen on the pic below. Each speaker emitted a sound when clicked on. Im now at a loss. Anyone have an idea?

"Microsoft* alerted Intel to an issue with the Intel® SSD Optimizer tool and Intel is working on a fix to the issue. After the SSD Optimizer is run, the SSD Optimizer renders all previously set Windows* system restore points unusable. However, user data is not affected. The SSD Optimizer tool is part of the Intel® SSD Toolbox (ver 1.1).

This applies only to users who meet all four criteria below:

Use Windows*7 or Vista and
Use the System Protection feature which sets system restore points (enabled by default in Windows*7 and Vista*) and
Have installed 02HA firmware and
Have used Intel SSD Optimizer (which was available from intel.com from 10/26 to 11/4).

A workaround for this issue and additional details are available here. Intel will give regular updates on this issue. Please note this issue is not related to the Intel SSD firmware update process covered in a separate announcement (Intel® Solid-State Drive Firmware Update)."

Intel Matrix Storage + SSD TRIM Pass-through?

Hello!

I would like to know if Intel is aware of the issues with SSD's and RAID arrays regarding the lack of TRIM capability. More and more SSD drives support the block cleaning/optimising method aka. TRIM. Windows 7 has the operating system level support for it. As far as the user useres his SSD's in normal SATA/Legacy IDE mode this TRIM methid works because the OS can send the TRIM method calls directly to the drive itself. But if the user's SSD drives are in a RAID0 array TRIM capabilities are gone, because the Intel RAID controller does not pass through the TRIM method calls.

My question is that whether Intel is aware of this problem and if is there any effort to solve this issue? Are we seeing any driver updates soon?

DX58SO BIOS issues: slow boot & bootable devices can't be disabled

Hi all!

I am new here, and a new owner of a DX58SO, and I7-920 running win7. I have a few problems with the board, which I believe are BIOS related.

Here are the details:

1. when running the latest BIOS (4405):

slow boot: it takes a total of 70 seconds to boot into win7. 25 - 30 seconds of this is until the "Intel boot screen" (where it says "press F2 to enter BIOS") shows. It takes another 10-15 seconds until the OS actually starts loading. So the win7 boot time itself is only ~30 seconds, with ~40 seconds needed by the board / BIOS to get ready.
when I disable bootable devices in the BIOS boot menu (network boot / USB / removable devices / optical devices) and only leave HDD to boot from, the system hangs during the win7 boot.

2. after going back to an older BIOS version (4196):

I can now safely disable bootable devices and the system boots. (this makes me think I am dealing with BIOS issues here)
The boot is still slow. In fact, even slower than with the latest BIOS. It now takes > 90 seconds to get win7 booted.

I have set the boot order to the HDD with the OS (WD velociraptor) as the first device, if that matters.

Any input on how to solve these issues and get a faster boot time is highly appreciated.

DX58SO Windows 7 Ultimate 82567LM-2 network Can not uninstall Network Connections to Fix Problem

On an Intel DX58SO Motherboard Running Bios 10/20/2009 with an Intel 82567LM-2 network hardware, the network has stopped working and can not get going again. System is running Windows 7 Ultimate X64 after upgrading from Vista Ultimate X64. It was working after the upgrade, but now is not. The SMB bus driver was reinstalled do to an issue with the driver and now the network is not working. Can not install new drivers because whenever the software is uninstalled from the control panel, the message.

The software version is not designed for this version of Microsoft Windows. For information and available software version for Intel Network Connections, see support.intel.com

So I am guessing since this could have been installed under Vista, it will not uninstall itself since we are under Windows 7 now?

Please help, network is down on this machine. Will have to go out and purchase an non-intel network card until this is resolved.

Hi,

I am purchasing a laptop from Dell, model # S540513IN8 - Dell Inspiron(TM) 1440 Laptop. With this system the OEM is giving Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 edition. Now I am interested in using 32 bit OS only. Will this processor be able to support the 32 bit OS and if yes then will I be able to run all the drivers specific to 32 bit OS?

I bought a new SSD from a extreamly well known online retailer that shall remain nameless for now. It came in just a electrostatic bag in their standard retail box. It is my beleif that this OEM drive should ship in a brown cardboard Intel box, with an info sheet and should come from the factory with a black spacer frame pre-attached. My drive has none of those and is missing the black frame. I have concerns that i have been passed a open box item or refurbed item.

Can someone confirm what the OEM drive with the above model number should ship with? I am not referencing the retail sku, i strictly would like info on what the OEM drive should have

DG45ID, v117: SATA Trouble

I'm experiencing a strange behaviour on my DG45ID motherboard:

Although I've connected hard drive "A" to SATA port #1 and hard drive "B" to SATA port #2, BIOS, Windows Installer and Windows itself list drive "B" first.

This keeps Windows from installing! (if both drives hold partitions from a previous installation)

Here's my configuration:

Intel DG45ID mainboard
Sony BDRW Bluray drive, plugged into SATA port #0
Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB hard drive, plugged into SATA port #1
Western Digital WD10EADS 1TB hard drive, plugged into SATA port #2

The only current remedy is to unplug the 1TB drive to be able to install Windows onto the 500GB drive. After that it's possible to plug in the 1TB drive again in order to use its data.

But after that, even the BIOS now doesn't read correctly that the 500GB drive is plugged into a port with a lower ID. Although listed first in the Drive Configuration page, when selecting Boot Menu Type "Normal", having Hard Drive Order set to list the 500GB drive first (which ISN'T the case by default!), the system still fails to boot because it launches from the 1TB drive!

Now after installing Windows 7 and plugging in the 1TB drive again, the only remedy is to set the BIOS Boot Menu Type to "Advanced" (the German translation of the BIOS calls that setting erroneously "Forward") and to set the Boot Drive Order manually.

Something is really wrong with this BIOS!

This should get fixed soon.

Age old question again - but now with the Intel i7, multi-threaded processor. I think there is still a lot of confusion here - Which is better (faster) for a Desktop? I know that 2 Xeons can be put in a system (asuming the MB supports 2 processors like the 5400 board) but I have never really seen a "side by side" compairison between the processors.

Now - with the i7, 8 lanes of traffic - and Xeon with the same - which would be better. Cost is about the same, MB would be different - but for a desktop computer, XP or Vista 32-bit - 3G of Memory - One better than the other? How about 64-bit OS? Standard windows applications running...

Windows 7 x64 drivers for Optiplex 755

I installed Windows 7 x64 on my Dell Optiplex 755 and need the following Intel Drivers AMT HECI & AMT SOL/LMS

This system is 1.5 yrs old with a extended warranty and Dell will not support this as they have advised that they will not accept windows 7 on these units?

They advised to try Vista x64 drivers but the system will not accept.

I can't beleive that Dell have no interest in supporting this and hope that someone can assist>

New/empty 160GB G2 with latest firmware from 10/26/2009.

P55 chipset on a Intel DP55KG motherboard with latest BIOS.

Storage controller set to AHCI in BIOS.

Installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Upon install, checked for automatic SSD optimizations that are supposed to be done if and only if the SSD properly notifies Windows 7 that it is a SSD.

Noticed that defrag was turned ON (the Intel SSD is my only drive in the computer)

Prefetch and Superfetch both turned ON per the registry

Drive Indexing turned ON (not sure if this was supposed to be turned OFF or not).

Whats up with this? Are these drives not communicating with Windows 7 properly upon install?

• Microsoft* alerted Intel to an issue with the Intel® SSD Optimizer tool and Intel is working on a fix to the issue. After the SSD Optimizer is run, the SSD Optimizer renders all previously set Windows* system restore points unusable. However, user data is not affected . The SSD Optimizer tool is part of the Intel® SSD Toolbox (ver 1.1).

• This applies only to users who meet all four criteria below:

• Use Windows*7 or Vista and

• Use the System Protection feature which sets system restore points (enabled by default in Windows*7 and Vista*) and

• Have installed 02HA firmware and

• Have used Intel SSD Optimizer (which was available from intel.com from 10/26 to 11/4).

• A workaround for this issue and additional details are available here . Intel will give regular updates on this issue. Please note this issue is not related to the Intel SSD firmware update process covered in a separate announcement (Intel® Solid-State Drive Firmware Update).

DP45SG Windows Vista registered won't start ?

Hello

I reallly need help with this matter. i just bought DP45SG two days ago, So when i install Vista Ultimate it installs fine and it also works fine when running windows in trial mode but problem occurs when i register windows and activate from microsoft, it requires me restart when i restart it then it won't boot it stucks between bootloader process or just a blank screen with blinking dot on it.

i just googled it and found alot matters about OEM or ACPI and stuff but i really dont know what are all those things and how to solve them. Please help me out with this situation.

(Windows XP Professional is working just fine.) do i really need some special kind of windows vista with dp45sg ? also before i got DG33FBC and it worked fine on that specs.

D945GSEJT hangs after resuming from S3 sleep

When the OS is set to enter standby (S3), the power light begins blinking. Usually when the board detects a resume signal (ie. power button press, keyboard activity, or ring indicator on serial port) the power light turns steady on and the board will resume fine, however, after 5-10 sleep/resume cycles (it is irregular), the board will lock up instead of resuming. This is a fresh installation of XP with no extra software. Is there a way to tell if this is a motherboard or operating system issue?

How can I boost X25-M 160GB performance?

I just installed a new X25-M 160MB G2 drive into my system (ASUS P6TSE MOB, i7 920 @ 3.8GHz, 12GB 1600MHz RAM). The firmware level of this X25-M is 2CV102G9 (like everyone else I am waiting for much-anticipated new firmware!). I am running a dual boot system with Win 7 Ultimate 64 and Vista Ultimate 64.

I first plugged the X25-M into the SATA0 port and on either system saw only max and average read rate at about 160MB/sec- far below the rated 250MB/sec. I am testing with HD Tune Pro by the way. I knew that wasn't right and had a hunch - I moved the drive to the SATA1 port and low and behold, under both Vista or Win7, the X25-M delivers at 228MB/sec read, whew, I feel much better! I don't know why SATA0 doesn't deliver - maybe someone can explain?). Now my main question, while 228MB/sec is wonderful, is there anything I can adjust to get the read rate up to the rated 250MB/sec range? I did turn off write caching hoping that would help but it didn't seem to make a difference. Thoughts?

Do/will the upcoming Intel RST drivers support Trim?

It is a fact, that the Intel Matrix Storage Manager AHCI and RAID drivers do not support Trim.

So users with an Intel chipset mainboard and 1 or more Intel X25-M G2 SSD's, who had successfully flashed the Trim Firmware and now want to get benefit of the automatic Trim action while working, have to use the Win7 in-box generic MS IDE or MS AHCI drivers.

Since several weeks there are new and already WHQL certified Intel AHCI/RAID drivers v9.5.0.1037 available at Station-Drivers. They belong to the upcoming new generation of Intel storage devices support named "Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology" (RST).

Here are my questions:

1. Do these new RST drivers v9.5.0.1037 already pass the Trim command?

2. If not, will the upcoming official release of Intels RST drivers support Trim?

3. If not, when can we expect Intel AHCI and RAID drivers, which do fully pass the Trim command?

I did already ask similar questions within another thread, but I didn't yet get an answer. That is why I started a new thread.

DP45SG - Problem resuming from sleep mode in Windows 7

I just installed Windows 7 on my DP45SG motherboard, but I'm experiencing a wierd issue when the computer is inactive for 20 minutes and go to sleep mode... When i move the mouse, the PC powers up, but there is no output on the monitor or similar... Pressing the reset button seems to be the solution, the the PC restarts with windows ("Windows resuming....")

I have another PC with the DG965WH motherboard - and on this host (with the same power-settings in windows), I never experienced this problem...

Could it be related to a BIOS setting ?

DX58SO incompatible with Noctua fans?

Hello everyone.

I have a very interesting problem with my DX58SO board.

I am using Noctua NF-P12 fans as my front and rear chasis fans and I have connected them to fan headers on the mainboard.

Those fans come with L.N.A. (Low Noise Adapter) and U.L.N.A. (Ultra Low Noise Adapter) which are used to decrease fan speed from their default 1,300 RPM to 1,100 or 900 RPM respectively.

Needless to say, I would like to use ULNA because there is more than enough airflow even at 900 RPM but I can't.

I have set fan control in BIOS (version 4196) to "Off" so they always operate at highest speed.

When I connect fan and adapter (which is just a resistor in series with 12V rail so nothing to be broken there) to onboard fan header the fan won't start unless I help it with my finger.

When I connect fan and adapter to molex connector coming from my power supply, the fan spins up normally.

Of course, I could use molex connector to power the fans, but then I don't have tachometer readout and using power from the PSU adds unneccessary clutter to the inside of my case.

Fans are rated at 12V / 1.08W and as such should not be a problem for a high-end desktop board. I believe that this has something to do with the way BIOS programs Andigilog fan controller IC fan spinup sequence. I have contacted Intel support regarding this matter but I have yet to explain all this to them. All ideas are welcome.

Trim function works well on Linux/Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit

3) apply the latest patch mentioned in the thread above as presented on page 10 by danekl

4) copy wiper.sh to usr/local/bin

5) run from terminal: sudo wiper.sh --commit / or sudo wiper.sh --commit /dev/sdaN (where sdaN is your ssd)

BTW, this is not real TRIM but gives the same effect. I run this each time at system start up.

Intel Pentium Dual Core E6300 and DG33BU compatibility problems

Today i replaced my old but still good E2160 CPU with new Pentium Dual Core E6300 (SLGU9) but i'm having some issues on above mentioned board,the issue is that the cpu fan ramps up to 4000rpm immediately after post and stay on 4000rpm,i was thinking that the cpu cooler wasn't properly seated so i removed it and put it again but no luck, When i booted to Windows i have checked the cpu temperatures with Everest and it was reading 76 degrees celsius on CPU,and cca 35 degreees on cores 1 and 2,i immediately rebooted and went to bios to check the temperature,to see that the processor thermal margin in bios was 24 degrees,so i'm thinking maybe that's what causing the fan ramp up,so i'm now asking is my CPU maybe bad or there is some incompatibility with my board ( intel compatiblity tool say they are compatible),bios version on the board is already latest 0517

DP55WB BIOS boot problem with 2 monitors attached

I noticed the strangest thing: my DP55WB gets stuck on BIOS code E7 when I boot with a secondary monitor attached to the ATI HD4670 card.

It happens both at cold start, and at reboot.

In order to boot, I must detach the second (VGA) monitor and boot with only my primary (DVI) monitor attached. As soon as the OS is loading I can attach the secondary monitor again and all is well (until the next reboot).

It really is a BIOS issue, it happens *before* the boot device selection.

I use EFI boot, BIOS version 0144 (latest).

The system is not completely dead at E7, I can use Ctrl+Alt+Delete for another reboot.

I can reliably reproduce the problem:

(2 monitors attached) -> boot stuck at E7 -> Ctrl + Alt + Delete -> boot stuck at E7 -> detach monitor -> Ctrl + Alt + Delete -> boot OK

Unable to Provision Windows 7 via SCCM

Hi all,

We have a Server 2008 R1 with SCCM 2007 R2 SP2 w/ WS Trans Mgmt installed and configrued. All is well and he have multiple Windows XP SP3 systems running on Lenovo T400 AMT 4.1.3 firmware. The issue we are having is with Windows 7 clients. The status that is showing up in SCCM is "Not Supported" and the logs for provisioing are below. I have bolded the item i think is the culprit.

The only option available, aside from divorcing the client from the site, is to in-band provision this machine via the ConfigMgr Client Agent. The oobmgmt.log on the client contains only success messages with nothing to indicate any problem. The AMT, SOL / ME Drivers were all installed correctly on the Windows 7 machine. The hash is also verified below as being in the ME BIOS.

After much review, i stumbled upon a document from technet stating that In-Band Provisioning via the SCCM SP2 agent is NOT SUPPORTED for Windows 7. The article can be reached here (Scroll down to the section regarding Out of Band Management toward the bottom).

Is this true? Can Windows 7 clients NOT be in-band Provisioned???

Windows 7 drivers/support for 82801ER RAID controller

I have a problem either doing a clean(custom install) or upgrade of Windows 7 on a Vista SP2 machine. I get the message:

"Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed."

It appears from searching Microsoft's forums that the problem is no support for my RAID controller even if the most current driver is installed as described in this thread:

Intel Matrix Storage Manager 8.9 problem

Yesterday, I upgraded to Intel Matrix Storage Manager (IMSM) 8.9.0.1023 in preparation for upgrading from Windows Vista Home Premium x64 to Windows 7 x64. I was previously running IMSM 8.2.0.1001 without any problems.

After installing IMSM 8.9, I encountered an annoying problem after resuming from a system sleep state. The desktop environment came up almost instantly as before upon system resumption, but access to the RAID array was delayed by around 30 seconds. Thus the system essentially froze when disk access was requested. This happened consistently.

I was hoping that the problem was isolated to an incompatibility between IMSM 8.9 and Windows Vista. But unfortunately it is not. Upgrading to Windows 7 did not resolve the issue. Thus I must conclude that a bug was introduced between IMSM 8.2 and 8.9. I'm not sure reverting to 8.2 is viable. I tried 8.8 without success.

This is a nuisance issue and not fatal. But still, having to wait for around half a minute every time after sleep resumption is not acceptable.

I have Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset with Laptop DELL Latitude D610. I installed Windows 7. I have also intalled the display driver sucessfully but Aero Peek is not working in Windows 7 and the following message is appeared. "The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDDM-compatible driver".

Please help me.

Hi, I wonder if there is anyone who could give some advise on the following case please?

I am an ASUS mobo fan, always used their desktop motherboards, but, well, I decided to try Intel this time, so here is my story:

I recently purchased the following items here in the Netherlands (Europe), all brand new:

- Intel Boxed Intel Core2 Duo Processor E8400 (6M Cache 3.00 GHz 1333 MHz FSB) LGA775

- Samsung HDD/500GB SATAII 16MB 3.5'' 7200rpm

- Intel Motherboards Extreme Series / ATX/ P45 Express Chipset with ICH10R / 4xDDR3@1333 (DP45SG)

- Corsair XMS3 DDR3,1333-4GK

- Samsung DVD RW 22x Black Bulk SATA

- AOpen A600A ATX box Silver/Black with a 350 watt PSU

- Microsoft Win Pro 7 64-bit English 1pk DSP OEI DVD

and used following (used) graphics card: MSI R4350-D256H

- later on: (also brand new, cause I forgot that item), a Linksys wireless-N PCI adapter with dual band model WMP600N-EU

When packing out the boxes, looking at all these great items I found out

a) Intel Corporation added a note in the mobo box stating: "you will need to use a USB diskette drive to install the Intel Matrix Storage raid driver

during the Windows XP installation process" Now, that raised an eyebrow; I spend a lot of money on the best around, SATA HDD's and all, but
Intel steps back 20 years in time?, and wants me to install something, before Windows can install a RAID driver??

Why, sure I need to be in the BIOS, for one, and second: I have no USB diskette drive with USB or SATA connector

But.. I was installing Windows7, so what the hay, I left this out..then

b) the Intel mobo had no PS2 outlet, so I could not connect a mouse and keyboard.

Hence, I could not start up the computer and get in the BIOS menu, like I am used to do. That raised a second eyebrow, I completely overlooked this missing spec. I solved that buying a special USB splitter cable, on which I could connect a PS2 mouse and PS2 keyboard.

So, starting up the desktop, I found the BIOS was ok, DVD ROM was the first boot part. Nothing needed changing, fine by me.

So I inserted the Windows 7 operating system, so far so good. After that, I had not activated Windows right away, cause the wireless card I added

from Linksys (after first installing the Linksys driver), wasn't recognized. After that the computer wouldn't

start anymore. I didn't get anything anymore. Some guy at work advised to remove the CMOS battery for a while, which I did.

Sure enough, I could re-install Windows7. I connected a network cable this time, to activate Windows on-line.

All was well. But then, I decided to download the latest Intel mobo drivers from this website ("Intel recommends that you download...etc.." boy was I dum), I was prompted to restart the computer after installing the latest Intel chipset drivers.

And then, dear readers, the computer went dead, and has stayed dead. I can start the MOBO outside the casing, the fans work, the DVD rom drives starts up, but I see no USB power going to the USB board and mouse, my screen is black, I cannot get into the BIOS. If I connect the DVD rom, and disconnect the HDD, to start to start Windows7 from the DVD, it doesn't work. Makes no difference: the screen remains black, no BIOS, no message, nothing.

The trick with leaving out the CMOS battery or the jumper on the BIOS reset connectors doesn't change anything.

The computer won't start. The DVD rom drive starts, but the Windows DVD doesn't give me a screen, or a BIOS, just the fans are blowing, for the rest... nothing, nothing... Is there anybody that can tell me how I can solve this?

What happens if you run Intel SSD Optimizer under Boot Camp Windows 7 setup.

I own 13 MacBook Pro 2.53Ghz Model (late 2009) with Intel x25-m 160Gb G2 34nm

I have installed Windows 7 x86 Ultimate and allocated 30Gb to it. My firmware is still not updated as I am waiting for the final release, but the question is would I be able to TRIM my MAC Partition at all? Any advices would be greatly appreciated.

I have been looking for weeks now for some list/specification on which Intel motherboards have support for VT-d. Iv found an unoficial list at some forum but I want got get the information directly from Intel. I have sent email to Intel and got the reply that "we do not offer interactive presales support." (for cosumer products). I have asked wendors but they dont know what Im talking about or refer to each motherboards specification on the Intel web site. I have looked at the specifications for motherboards and there is no information if it supports VT-d or not. Why is this so difficult?

Please mr Expert, do you know where to find this information?

DP55WB & Core i5 + Win7 + Speedstep = BSOD when idle

I recently built 2 machines both with Intel DP55WB Motherboard, Core i5 750, Corsair 1333 4GB (2GBx2), Win7. One computer has a 405w Enermax PSU, the other has a 750w Corsair PSU. Both are running Win7 64 bit.

With Intel Speedstep / C1 State / Turbo Mode enabled, they can run prime95 stable for 24+ hours, but they BSOD when idle. If I disable Speedstep / C1 State / Turbo Mode, the machines are rock solid stable at load or idle. Has anyone else encountered this issue with crashing when idle?

DX58SO Discontinued? x58 Successor?

Intel has already told me that the DX58SO has not been "officially" discontinued yet, but the board is disappearing from the channel.

NewEgg has deactivated the DX58SO, most Fry's stores (west coast) no longer carry it and ZipZoomFly, TigerDirect and Directron are out of DX58SO stock.

What is going on? It is hard to believe that Intel is not going to have a consumer-level, socket-1366 board for Core i7/i9 in its desktop line up.

Has Intel announced or previewed an x58 successor to the DX58SO yet?

The use for HDDErase or Sanity Erase

I was wondering, once in a while I reinstall my laptop. Just to have a fresh copy of windows, how refreshing.

Anyway I've never done this before with my SSD. Will the secure erase function from HDDErase 3.3 just format my SSD and bring back the state as it was when I bought it?

I also read that HDDErase will write random data until it's full, isn't this just what we don't wanna do to the drive? And how about Sanity Erase, this should make the drive think it's empty, is this a good option? If performance will be back and if the Intel SSD's are even supporting this tool is unknown for me.

Two weeks ago I have successfully updated the firmware of my brand new Intel X25 G2 80GB (to 02HA). I set the ICH9R to AHCI and then installed my brand new Windows 7 OS. I have checked that my ssd was using the MS AHCI driver. So according to Intel, everything was ok to make automatic trim work : 02HA firmware + MS ACHI driver + windows 7.

Two weeks after, all my softwares were installed on my ssd (10 GB are free now). I launched Crystal diskmark and I had only 30 MB/s for the "4k write". All the other tests ( 512 k read/write, sequential read/write and 4k read) were also a bit disappointed (but fortunately not as much as the 4k write).

So I launched the Intel SSD toolbox and ran the ssd optimizer (manual trim). And yes, after that, my ssd is like brand new : 70 MB for the 4k write... (the other values are also higher).

So, does the automatic trim really do its job ? How can I check that it is really active ?

Computer shuts down when starting Windows

Hi. I have a DP965LT motherboard and recently I have an issue with it. When I turn on the computer and Windows is starting some times the computer shuts down before showing the session start screen. I've been looking for a solution during a week but I haven't been lucky yet. I found a guy with a DG965RY motherboard discussing the same issue.

The specifications of my computer are:

- Motherboard Intel DP965LT

- Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1 Ghz processor

- nVidia GForce 7300 PCI Express 256 MB

- 3 GB RAM (1 GB DDR 800 Mhz and 2 GB DDR 800 Mhz)

- SATA HD Maxtor 250GB SATA 7200 RPM, SATA HD Hitachi 250GB 7200 RPM

- DVD writer LG

- KWorld TV tunner PCI card

- OS: Failure started when I was using Windows XP SP3. Then I switched to Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits. Now I'm testing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits

The CPU fan has never failed. The usual temperature is fairly warm. The installed operative system when the shut down issue started was Windows XP SP3.

The problem started to happen once every three times I turned on the computer. I installed Windows 7 supposing that it was a software problem but the computer was shutting down during installation. I had to format C partition in order to install Windows 7.

After Windows 7 32 bits was installed the computer worked well for one day. Then it started to shut down again before Windows started. Frequency of failure increased to 3 times before Windows would finally start. Once Windows started the computer has always worked perfectly with Windows XP and 7.

I updated the BIOS with the latest Intel BIOS available in the Intel website. The problem was still on.

I activated the AHCI function for SATA hard disks. The problem was still on.

I removed one DDR memory first and the issue was still happening. Then I removed the second RAM and tried with the first one. The problem was still there.

The failure continued until Windows collapsed and I had to reinstall it, but i bought a new hard disk. So I removed the SATA Maxtor hard disk and installed a new Hitachi SATA hd. Then I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits and the shut down problem was still present during installation. Then I reformatted the new HD and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits. It worked but after three restart processes the computer started to shut down again.

I tried disconnecting the power supply and the IDE cord from the DVD, leaving only one hard disk connected and the problem is still there.

When I had Windows XP and the problem started I was using NOD32 antivirus. After I switched to Windows 7 I installed Avast Antivirus instead of NOD32.

I checked the voltage indicators in the BIOS monitoring screen and most voltages are very close to normal values. Some are below and some are over the normal value but it was always the same since I bought the computer two years ago.

I have no clue about what may be the problem. If it's not the motherboard it may be the power supply but after looking for a solution on the web I didn't find anyone with a similar problem except for this guy using a similar Intel motherboard.

I appreciate any help or advice.

New DX58SO build: No video, no post, no beeps.

Putting together a new build from the Intel Retail Edge program consisting of the DX58SO and the i7-920. Other components include a 1000w Corsair PSU, Corsair Dominator Ram, Geforce 260GTX. Everything to the best of my knowledge is compatible in the system. Upon booting it up for the first time, all the fans spin and the system seems to power on, but no video, no post, no beeps. The green ambient light is on on the motherboard, the HDD blue activity light on the bottom of the DX58SO flashes for one quick moment then no other activity. Since there was no error beeps, I thought it might be a bad video card, so I pulled the memory to try to get a no memory post beep. Still nothing. At this point I pulled out the PS box and replaced the motherboard 12v cable as well as the PCI-E 12v cables with new ones, in different order, etc. Still nothing. The 4-pin Molex and SATA connectors on the motherboard are connected and well seated. CPU Paste was spread in a line over the cores and then evenly spread by seating the block on top.

I'm at ends here! I've got no LED's or error codes to go off of...I see that there are several no post D58SO topics. I've read through all that I can find.

i am having constant warnings (every second) in windows 7 event viewers. Did not notice this until i tried need to speed:shift yesterday night. my pc just froze for the first time and i looked at the event viewers for possible cause of freeze up. I never had a hard freeze and could play other games like bioshock, fallout3, etc. I found that this warning has been appearing almost every second since sept 12. Please help. Thanks in advance.

I received my X-25M 160GB just when Intel pulled the firmware and SSD Toolbox. I've been using this drive for about 2 weeks now without any use of tools. I was wondering if I only need to run the SSD Optimizer when it's out or should I do a fresh install (with the HDDErase tool). After I install the new SSD Optimizer, will it know which files are actually deleted already?

Performance question regarding Intel SSD drive

I have been reading rave reviews about the Intel X25-M Mainstream SSDSA2M160G2XXX 2.5" 160GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid state disk (SSD) drive.

I use a laptop (Lenovo W500) and currently use 7200 RPM SATA drives. I run VMWare Workstation a lot and am looking for performance improvements that possibly the above SSD will provide.

Here are a few performance questions/topics that hopefully you can help me with:

Typically the best way to have good VMWare performance (other than CPU and RAM) is to be sure to store/run the VM images themselves from another internal, non-USB drive. Meaning, you power up your pc and VMWare Workstation is installed in c:\program files yet your actual VMs are stored in d:\vmfiles or something...this way the 2nd hard drive is free from Windows' normal disk i/o nonsense. Therefore, I can imagine improving drive performance by 1 of 2 options:

1)Install the Intel SSD drive as my 2nd drive...the c drive (where Windows is installed) will still be a SATA 7200 RPM drive.

2)Install the Intel SSD drive as BOTH my drives...therefore, a definite performance gain because I am no longer using traditional non-SSD drives

My big question is: Do you think #1 will give me a performance increase in my daily use of VMWare or will I really need to go with option #2? I'm not a super VMWare expert but I believe all VM disk i/o is done on the drive where the VM files are stored (in my case, the D drive)...and therefore, theoretically #1 would give me a performance increase if I am correct. But, a part of me says that VMWare Workstation's inner workings (not the VM) is utilizing the Windows Page File that is stored on the C drive...so if I do #1, I won't get as much of a performance gain as doing #2.

I hope my question makes sense.

Again, my use case is all around Windows (XP or 7 or 2008 Server) and VMWare Workstation...the W500 laptop currently has 4gig of RAM and will likely go to 8GB soon...and the CPU is a 2.53GHz dual core Intel. The VMs run ok now, but after reading about the Intel SSD being faster than many RAID configurations, I just had to come here and ask around. I am aware of the traditional methods of increasing system and VM performance, but until recently, laptop drive performance was the last frontier to be improved.

Intel RAID 5 kicked 2 of my drives out! Help please!

I have an ASUS P5Q motherboard with onboard Intel RAID chipset.

I have 4 1.5TB drives that I succesfully made into a RAID5 configuration and populated with data.

After installing a new video card and rebooting the Intel Storage Matrix kicked out 2 of the 4 drives on my RAID and they show up below as non-raid members. While the RAID shows 2 drives missing! The boot drive is on a separte IDE bus so the only other drives connected are the 4 sata drives that I am talking about.

How can I get these guys back onto the RAID5?

The software does allow me to do anything. This is very important data to me and I donot have an extra 4.5 TB to image the drives onto for recovery.

The drives are all new and work perfectly, I have not touched them since so I know the data is all still there. Also they are still plugged into the same ports on the Motherboard so order is kept good.

Windows 7 (32 bit) upgrade on DG33TL

I have upgraded my DG33TL to Windows 7 32 bit. Everything seems fine, with two exceptions:

1. The audio drivers will not recognize a microphone plugged into the front panel, though the front panel headphone jack does work.

In attempting to address this I updated the chipset drivers, but for the audio sytems the "Intel Driver Update Utility" reports that, "An Intel device was detected but your operating system is not supported by this utility."

2. I have downloaded the latest driver for my Samsung SyncMaster 906 BW monitor and it works fine with I boot from, but if the system wakes from sleep mode, it forgets all about the SyncMaster, loses the optimum resolution settings (1440 x 900) and reverts to a "Generic non-PnP monitor" (1280 x 960). Would installing a pci express video card help, or would I still have the same problem?

Any ideas?

Intel 945GM - Extended Desktop no longer working

I have an HP dv6000 laptop with the intel 945GM graphics adaptor, running windows XP.

Originally I Vista machine, I have had XP running on it well for over a year or so, and the exteneded desktop aspect worked very well.

Last week XP decided to throw a wobbler on me & eventually had to reinstall it. Unfortunately, now the extended desktop doesn't work any more, and I very much need it for the work I do.

I am currently using the 945 drivers from your intel site, and have also tried the XP drivers from HP, and laterly - in some desperation - the Vista drivers for my machine from HP. I've tried uninstalling the drivers, rebooting, and then re-installing, but with no success. The "Dual Display Clone" option works fine from the Intel "Graphics Properties..." dialog, but the extended desktop option does not.

Ideas or suggestions welcome. Is there a utility that more effectively uninstalls graphics card drivers so that I could get back to a "virgin" install of your 945 drivers?

I apparently did a real stupid thing to my new PC setup...I set my 10666 OCZ to 13333 in the DP55WB BIOS. The system was working fine until I did that. Now when I turn on the system I get 3 long beeps, and no post or boot. I tried clearing the bios using both the jumper and removing the battery...didn'r work...I removed all of the ram and tried to boot...didn't work...I took cards out, and unplugged the drives...nothing different. I can't believe that something that easy to do would destroy my INTEL DP55WB mainboard....so...do you I did?...or is there a way to reset the ram to a default level without access to the BIOS? TIA for any ideas.

E5200 on Intel DG45FC fan problems

Hi there,

I have an E5200 cpu on an Intel DG45FC motherboard in a Chenbro ES34069 case (see http://www.chenbro.com/corporatesite/products_detail.php?sku=78). The case has its own HSF due to limited space. The fan connector is a 4-pin so I assume it is a proper PWM fan that should be compatible with the Intel MB. My bios is 0117 (released: 9/27/2009). Regardless of the cpu fan setting in the bios the fan keeps switching between 1600 and 2500 rpm every second or two. This makes for a very annoying noise pattern - the fan itself it not noisy, but the constant switching of rpms is. I have verified with HW-Monitor (http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php) that there are no thermal issues with the cpu.

How can I get this issue solved so I can have server running all the time without going crazy?

Are there any compatible intel 82915gm graphics driver for Windows Vista, Win7

Hey, guys, I think we should take some info of those who updated their g2's. It's really hard to see what's going. I think people should list the stuff on their computer and what was on it before the firmware flash. It might be a lot easier to see a commonality. In my opinon, Intel should have made the flash update a destructive one. Wipe the drive off clean before updating the flash. That way a lot of variables for error is reduced. I have a feeling the trim command is getting some instructions all messed up with a filesystem already present. Yeah i know it's a lot of questions but...

Windows 7 + PCI Simple Communications Controller +Compaq 6910P

Given that the Windows 7 compatibility check said my Compaq 6910p laptop had not problems, I installed Windows 7 Ultimate. All installed O.K. although I did have to get many drivers from Compaq's web site.

But one issue defies a solution. I apparently require drivers for the PCI Simple Communications Controller. HP/Compaq support pointed me to their Vista drivers but only after I pushed them - well, Microsoft claim that Vista drivers should work on W7. But these refuse to install climing incompatibility with the operating system.

Intel's own automatic system check isn't any help either. And back to Microsoft who say it's Intel's problem.

Have got off to a good start with two desktop system on which I installed W7, but I'm now becoming decidely disillusioned, especially since this laptop is newer than the two desk tops.

Moreover, I'm off to Zimbabwe in a couple of weeks where I'm expected to show Windows 7, and since this PCI problem appears to be at the root of my failure to get wireless connectivity, I'm not a happy camper.

Has anyone any thoughts here?

Restoring RAID 0 after drive failure

I recently noticed that one of two 250 GB hard drive was going out. System was configured to a RAID 0. Port 0 OK, Port 1 failed.

I replaced the defective drive with a 1 TB. When I went to restart the system, it would not start. I removed the 250 GB drive in Port 0 and replaced it with the 1 TB drive. I did not re-install the working 250 GB drive. I loaded Vista onto the 1 TB drive and got the computer running. I have reinstalled the 250 GB drive in Port 0 and moved the 1 TB to Port 1. Now, I want to include the original working 250 GB drive and restore the system to a RAID O.

I have the following info;

1. Under the RADI drives in the Matrix Storage Manager (MSM), list the 250 GB drive as Port 0.

2. Under the RADI drives in the MSM, the defective drive info has been replaced with the words “Missing Drive”.

3. Under Non RAID hard drives in the MSM is listed the 1 TB drive as occupying Port 1.

Installing this drive was something new for me and I obviously missed a step. The instructions on this site are not directed towards my situation. Does anyone have some advice to correct this back to a RAID 0 without having to delete my existing RAID volume and have to re-restore my data?

I have an Intel x25-m G2 drive in a 13" MacBook Pro with the latest firmware (the one causing all the issues on Windows 7). It has been fine, but I'm curious if there's a way to send the secure erase ATA command to the drive like HDDerase does.

I've made FreeDOS boot discs with HDDerase on it, but it doesn't see the drive (I believe this is because the Mac always has the drive in enhanced SATA mode and I believe HDDerase requires IDE mode -- something I cannot change, nor would I want to in light of the latest firmware issues possibly springing from switching ide/ahci modes for the drive).

I'm sure other Mac users are wondering the same thing.

DP45SG - occasional BIOS/MB beep while in operation

During normal operation, I will sometimes hear two beeps - one long, one short - or one normal, one "half-beep" depending on what your defintion of a "long" beep is. So far I have had zero indication of any issues on this machine....Desktop Control Center shows green across the board (except QPI appears to be low @ 1.05v); temperatures, fan speeds, etc. I disabled my fan monitor control bay's alarm, so I know it's not that.

Any ideas? I've never had a motherboard beep during operation before, only during normal startup/POST or if there's an issue and the board won't boot.

Please note hardware may or may not be the issue. I think its the Bios update 2000 and later.

This is to let everybody having issues with the Bios update 2000 and 2006 for the DX48BT2 and or maybe DX38BT. I did not really figure this out until I had to complete a warrenty return for my DX48BT2 mother board. When I received the replacment and intergrated the CPU, memory, graphics card and so on. I booted for the first time with Bios 1814 no problems. I left set-up defualts in the Bios and booted to Windows Vista 32 bit. I downloaded the latest Bios update of 2000.exe for Windows. It complete succesfully of course. Then I went in to set-up the Bios, it started to hang. It would hang in the Bios set-up and even when I booted. Then update 2006 came out. It made it worse. Then I called Intel and they sent me another replacment DX48BT2. I then noticed with Bios 1814 that there were no issues. So I updated to Bios 1997. There were no boot hangs or issues setting up the Bios. Please note, It doesn't matter how you update from Bios 1997 to a later release of 2000 or 2006, you will still have the same problem. Also note that when you upgrade with your Bios already configured from Bios 1997 with XMP settings in place, you may or may not see system hangs until, you load defualt and or optimal values and restart without setting any changes to bios and or still may hang in the Bios. So I am sure its not my hardware. In Bios 2000 and later for DX48BT2 and or maybe DX38BT with jedec standred 1066MHZ memory with XMP settings and or other memory for new builds stay with Bios update 1997 until Intel fixes this issue.

So get your game on with a stable bios!

I'm toying around with replacing the CPU of my Dell Inspiron 11z. It has the Pentium SU4100. I love my netbook/notebook but I'd like it to have more power. The Intel Core 2 Duo SP9600 is a high performance low voltage processor so I'd love to be able to install it in my mini. The 11z comes with the GS45 Chipset. except I'm running WinXP Pro SP3. I get random BSOD (with parameters suggesting a USB driver incompatibility or memory error), or the system just suddenly reboots without any error message. Followed the advice on the other thread and disabled enhanced speedstep and C1 state on the BIOS and the system is now stable.

Very frustrating, the whole reason I got Intel motherboards was precisely to avoid this kind of problem.

Poor show Intel, I expect better from you. Hope you release a BIOS fix that will solve this problem ASAP.

based on this information(I can hardly believe), the Windows 7-WHQL-Support for my desktop-board, I bought one year ago is discontinued.

I bought it, because I wanted a stable platform for my system, and it was stable. The P45-boards weren't stable at that time, at least the Asus I tried before.

I have a Q6700 and 8GB RAM, the system is fast enough and very stable, even with the brand-new Windows 7x64 and Intel stops support for an 1 1/2 year old product?

I mean, it's an P35 with ICH9, not ICH7 or 5.

Or will there be drivers in the future, but without WHQL-logo? I could live with that, no problem.

But a general stop of support, that's very, very disappointing for me.

Just when I was planning to put graphic card on my old 845 motherboard, it got crashed or shortcuited due to power spike. Now the processor fan will run only when all the peripherals are disconnected otherwise it will shutdown in few seconds. The bios doesn't show at all.

I have an Asus x38 Maximus Formula mboard, flashed to the latest bios (1403). With the X25-M plugged in, if I set it to AHCI in the BIOS, it hangs while detecting the SATA port. If I set it to RAID, it doesn't even POST. If I unplug it and then POST and set it to IDE, plug it back in, then works just fine (Win7 x64).

I'd love to have it in AHCI mode so I can hot-plug my external SATA drive for backups.

Is this a drive/firmware issue or a mboard BIOS (ie Intel controller ROM)?

Are other people seeing this?

Connected to the SATA ports:

1 X25-M 80GB

1 150GB Raptor

hey everyone

i have a dp5wg

this problem has happened to me twice now.

if the computer goes into S3 sleep. it will come out, so far as power cycling on, but then nothing ever displays on my screens, they stay blank. as well as the debug led goes haywire, and the hdd led keeps constantly flashing. i have left the computer this way for over 20 minutes just to make sure it doesnt come out of S3, no luck.

upon a hard reset, no video appears on the screen and it halts at the error code 29, "exit mrc driver". i never gets to the bios or OS.

the back to bios button doesnt help either. use of this button causes the exact same symptoms as when it comes out of S3. the debug led displays random numbers/codes extremely fast, and i get no video after post.

it can be solved by manually taking out the battery and replacing it. however i dont want to have to do this everytime my computer falls into S3. anyone know what is going on and how to i fix it? and also to what the "exit mrc driver" code refers?

Just upgraded my computer with this board, new Intel Core2 Quad cpu, 550 Watt power supply, 2 x 2GB DDR2 ram, new, Seagate SATA 500GB hard drive and it just sits there at the Intel screen "<Bios settings: F2, Boot Menu F10> and a little square box with the code: B3. I looked up the meaning of the code, that it's "configuring" the media (hard drive). WELL, it's been over 2 hours and it's still at that screen. I cannot click F2 or F10 because it's obviously not recognizing my keyboard. Tried putting the board's CD in for it to read (even though it's supposedly outdated), but that's to no avail.

What the heck am I missing here??? Please HELP!!!

Keeping the motherboard on cardboard, power on pins on motherboard 6&8 on J9J1 shorted by s screw driver power not switching on to CPU, FAN, HDD,FDD etc.,etc. When i checked 20 pin power connector externally by shorting the pin 3 & 4 (Green & Block), i am getting 12v core voltage and other voltages. HDD, CD ROM, FDD, POWEER CHASIIS FAN ARE WORKING. power connector connected on motherboard nothing is working.I don't have spare board or CPU for checking.Kindly guide me which part (componant) i have to check and replace for perfect working condition or which IC i have to replace.

DP55WG Issue

Basic System Config. is DP55WG motherboard, core i7-860 processor, xfx HD575X radeon video card in pci e x16 slot, highpoint rocketraid 4320 raid controller in pci e x8 slot, 8 gig corsair dominator memory (recommended for this board), no other addin cards, windows 7 ultimate x64, latest bios on motherboard and highpoint card, no bios update for video card available, latest drivers installed for all products. The issue is this, the computer fails to properly boot 3 times out of 5 (or so). there is a beep code of 2 long beeps when the boot sequence fails (intel beep code list variously describes this error as either video error or parity error). sometimes when it is possible to boot the os it will run for 1 minute or less or up to 30 minutes then either freeze or the system will reboot. sometimes it will reboot cleanly, others it will give the 2 beeps. there has never been a "blue screen" os error. there has not been any event viewer indications other than "unexpected shutdown". when the original bios was in place the system would not complete booting at all unless i setup the raid array using the intel matrix controller instead of the highpoint. this is how i was able to "flash the bios" as i was able to install the os on one drive of my array. right now i'm not sure if the motherboard will support a video card in the x16 slot and a raid controller in the x8 slot. all intel documentation i have read makes no statement one way or the other. it is my opinion that there is either a base memory overlap problem or a irq issue. for any that can help i have much more extensive documentation of the system setup and memory and irq assignments.

trouble shoot DP43TF POST Problem

There's some history associated with this problem; I'll try to keep it brief.

Over the last several months booting my computer with its EVGA 780i SLI mobo had become increasingly difficult. This mobo has digital readouts for POST and indicated that it was stalling on C1 which is a memory problem. I could start it, eventually by hitting reset over and over and eventually it would cycle through. Once it booted up it would work fine (you could turn it off / restart it etc.) until it was turned off for the night.

One day, that process, hitting the reset over and over quit working.

I had had the memory tested independently long ago and the memory was fine. I assumed the mobo was at fault again. (Been through several already) I have a warranty with EVGA to replace it.

Meanwhile I really needed access to my data etc.

So I procured an intel DP43TF mobo. I figured that I could put this in and use my components (intel core duo, SATA drives, vid card) to get the machine up and running and later on use this board to build another machine.

Well, I get everything installed. I check and double check everything.

When I fire it up this board is giving me 3 longs beeps at startup.

After a small search I find that this indicates a memory problem.

I'm thinking that maybe the memory is bad now.

So, being the good troubleshooter, I take the memory to a friend who has a machine that accepts DDR2 memory. And guess what? Each memory stick (independently and combined in both slots) works perfectly in his computer.

So, this means I have two socket 775 mobos that say they are experiencing MEMORY errors at POST when, in fact the memory is working fine.

This leaves CPU or Power Supply or the new intel board I purchased is bad out of the box. This happened with an EVGA board so I am not ruling it out. I just don't think that it is plausible.

Any ideas on what could trigger the mobo to have a POST error that indicates a memory problem when the memory is working?

A few questions I have:

If the CPU is faulty on the intel board what would the POST error code be?

If the Pwr Supply (which is a Thermaltake Toughpower 750W unit that is only 2 yrs old) is bad then what POST errors would this throw out?

I upgraded (aactually clean install) of Vista 64 to Win 7 64 bit.

I was on the ASUS (Mobo) site for updated drivers.

I found one - Intel Chipset Inf Update Program V9.1.1.1014 for Win7 32bit/64bit- but not sure what Intel chip I have.

I ran a Intel INF Update Utility- but that was not helpful.

But not sure what I have qualifies as not sure which Intel family I have.

all I can say is I have a Intel Core i7 940 / 2.93 mhz/8/4.8GT

DG43NB shutting down problem with win server 2003

hello

recently we have bought a new PC for our office`s fileserver use. I`ve installed Windows Server Enterprise 2003 SP1 Release2 on it. It has no problem , but when you decide to turn it off ( start>shutdown ) , it starts to turning off , close the programs, and when a window appears on you screen that it contains animated windows logo with this code:<< " windows is shutting down... ">> , my pc suddenly restars! like when you press the restart button in front of the case! and the device starts the booting process! i dont know why?! please help me, this is critical for my job security.

Hi All!

I just build my system with mb DX58SO, First i want to test outside first with my memory Corsair 6gb triple, but i installl 1 slot only, and video card, monitor when i turn it on power my monitor notthings and mb no sound, no beep. i tried test memory and video card with another board it work fine. Can you help me for this problem even i tried to clear bios jumper before i contact to RMA, and mb AA E29331-302? Thanks

I can't install FreeBSD 7.0 and 7.2 : message - "Fatal Trap 12".

I cant even boot from some live CD : FreeBSD boot only CD, Frenzy 1.1 - I got this message after choose type of loading (1 - FreeBSD Default, 2 - Single user, etc.) and before "login :" inviting string - in moment of loading drivers.

I got this message in any cases of booting from CD with FreeBSD (install CD or Live CD).

Hardware : any PCIe cards in motherboard, memory - tested by MemtestX86 from Hiren'sCD

BIOS : last vertion - 0117, all settings - default - any manual

Is motherboard DG45ID support FreeBSD 7.0 or 7.2 in general?

DP55KG BIOS & Memory Errors

DP55KG motherboard

i5 processor

BIOS: 3878.2009.1028 (latest at this time)

OCZ PC3 12800 2GB RAM sticks (Part # OCZ3G1600LV4GK) (4 sticks, 8GB total)

Win7 64 bit or Win2008 R2 64-bit

No overclocking or tweaking. Defaults across the board.

First problem: Neither OS would install with more than 2GB of RAM. RAM was installed in channel A, slot 0.

After install, I could add the RAM back and the system would run. However, multiple bluescreen events at random times.

BurnInTest x64 would run fine with 2GB of ram. As soon as more was installed, thousands of memory errors or bluescreens.

Second problem: When booting (even with one stick), the system will beep once, flash the spash screen, black screen. Single beep again, flash the spash screen and then boot. It appears that it is not booting on the first attempt, something gets dynamically adjusted and then it reboots.

Wondering if this seems like a bad MB or if I should try different RAM.

DG41RQ BOOT ORDER AND LINE-IN AUDIO PROBLEM

DG45ID resume from suspend to ram causes reboot.

But regular s1 suspend works fine. The problem appears both in 32 bit and 64 bit mode. With SMP disabled and enabled in bios. With intelme off and on. The same with results with integrated devices and qst turned off by bios. Some times the system doesn't reboot, but just freezes instead without any signs of resume of OS functionality.

Version IDG4510H.86A.0093.2009.0402.2013.

Second problem, EFI bootstrap doesn't works and firmware doesn't export the efi interface to userspace even with EFI boot turned on by bios.

D41TY board Burned twice after an hourthen i install Win7

i have D41TY with 9400quad processor and its work good wite win xp.

I decided to upgrade to Win7 and . after one hour D41TY board Burned.

THE Board was replaced in new one;and Burned again after one hour.

The third time was replaced by a new board
But with a processor E7500 and it works well.

and i see in the "events view" in windows7 that 1 min Before the last Two board Burned. the system Warning Critical that 9400quad processor

not work good in all his 4 Cores and to Contact the manufacturer to update the firmware

Does anyone know what the reason
Maybe BIOS update
Perhaps if the board does not support good at Win7

DP35DP: Fan headers not working properly

I've had this DP35DP for 1.5 years now as my primary workstation. It has been rock solid.

I have always had 1x 120mm intake and 1x 120mm exhaust fan attached to the 3-pin fan headers. Of course, there's the CPU fan header.

Everything has worked properly, and BIOS has always reported the proper fan speed (RPM).

Recently though, the exhaust and intake fan headers started to report my fans running at about half of their rated speed (1000RPM). They are actually running around 500-600RPM and I can notice the difference. Case is definitely warmer, and just putting my hand across the fans, I can feel much less pressure.

And yesterday, the exhaust fan header stopped reporting the fan speed altogether ( 0 RPM) - although the fan continued to run, albeit at a slower RPM

Here's what I have done so far:

1. Changed to latest BIOS, changed to last 3 BIOS versions.

2. Changed every possible configuration in BIOS related to the fans (aggressive, high, auto detect, next boot, disable, etc) - you name it, I've tried it!

3. Plugged exhaust/intake fans on CPU fan header (they are reported on right RPM, and actually run at that rated speed, 1000RPM.)

I haven't changed anything on the system except upgrading the videocard from a 9600Gt to a GTX 275. Though, even after I upgraded to the GTX 275, the fans did work properly for a good many months.

PSU (Corsair HX620) voltage is fine. Everything well within range. Nothing complicated with my hardware setup either.

Again....this happened randomly. NOT after installing or removing a component.

What could be the cause of this and how can I resolve? I'm not concerned about the RPM being monitored correctly per-se, I'm more concerned about that this erratic behavior by the fan headers will eventually lead to some sort of larger and imminent failure. (i.e. all fan headers stop functioning)
