I encourage everyone to do the same and fill a complain w. the Better Business Bureau (BBB)

http://www.bbb.org/

I got this motherboard exchanged by the same motherboard model, which is faulty by design (?). I would have only requested a motherboard of a similar value w. a compatible chipset (for my hardware).

However, the original setup using a Q8300 quad cpu works perfectly - I'm using it now, very stable and reliable. When I tried changing ONLY THE CPU to a Q9550 it won't post. Like you, fans spin but the CPU doesn't get warm. No beeps - no signal to the monitor. I've given up and bought an Asus P5P43TD - hoping that the chipsets are similar enough not to give windows a hissy fit. I'll keep the DP45SG / Q8300 combo for an HTPC project I want to build. Hope it works out for you.

Well i am glad some DP45SG m/b is still working fine. Mine was also working fine for months(about4) before it suddenly stop posting. That was after i had to swop it 3time before the first one worked properly. Now i warranty swop it now again 2times, and still don't get i to post. I swoped memory, cpu's, psu, grapics cards with no luck does these m/b want to post. I have done everything that was told, by u (people on this blog), i contact intel support, they have the cheak to tell me it is my components. Well i test all my components on different Intel m/b and it has no problem to work. As far as i can see it must be the mainboard.

The last m/b that does not post, everything starts up but it does not switch on the grapics, but u can see all the fans and spinning: cpu, graphics, case fans ect. But no image. U can feel that the Graphicscard goes warm, memory goes warm, so i took off the CPU fan to feel the CPU...Whow it does not warm up. This tells me the m/b does not control the CPU correctly. I then test the CPU and it works fine in another m/b.

So i think this m/b does not have a Power voltage problem to memory but to the CPU, that is why u have this reboot, freez and no post problem.

I really hate this motherboard and think INTEL must replace it it with an equivalent motherboard.

That 4-pin molex is to power the PCI-E x16 video card port rated around 75W. Obviously with a lot of different high performance video cards that carry their own power connectors (ie 6-pin PCI-E) but this is required to power the motherboard and is recommended by Intel on the instructions manual as well.

Generally it's a good idea to plug in the 3 power sources to the motherboard as required just for safety; 24pin + 4-pin block (left of the CPU) + 4-pin molex (above graphics port).

Just curious, did you make sure to evenly spread thermal compound when you installed your CPU? I know it's an obvious thing to do, but sometimes people forget and that leads to random system shutdowns when the CPU senses too much heat it would cut power to save itself from burning up.

By the way I am running the Q9550 in both of my machines. But I used Crucial (ct2kit25664BA1339 ) and running 8 gigs . Buy the way do you have the 4 pin molenex plugged in just above the graphics card??

I'm starting to think that even if I get my machine to post with the Q9550 (it has been working perfectly with a Q8300 but I want to use the hardware virtualisation support in the Q9550) I'll possibly end up with this random reboot/freeze issue. I was about to replace the PSU as it's less of a hassle than switching boards but I'm kind of leaning towards an Asus P5P43TD. P43 chipset and ICH10 so os transplant issues should be minimal. Has an esata port which I use and DDR3 so I can use my existing RAM. I'll post how it goes.

I've looked into the memory issue - the shop I bought the RAM from had it listed as 7-7-7-20 but the a search on the OCZ website for that part no. shows the RAM to be CL 9-9-9. Also, the RAM is working perfectly with the Q8300 chip in place. The computer won't post at all with the Q9550 in - even with no memory at all, you should get some beeps telling you that there's no memory. I'd like to try a different PSU - one with better amperage rating across the 12v rails - I'll probably be able to get a service shop to try that for me if I bring in the box. If that ain't it, I reckon that I might have to give up on the board...
