No, it doesn't beep when no RAM is installed. It had worked with heavy daily use for about 7 months until last week; what's more, wouldn't it be odd if the error beep speaker and another component (whatever is preventing it from posting) failed at about the same time?

In any event, I have returned the board to Intel under an RMA. I've also ordered some RAM that's to spec, as per your advice.

Maybe the memory error beep speaker is broken - does it beep with no memory at all? I don't know why this ram worked apart from possible backwards compatibility (most ram will often run at slower speeds for the sake of compatibility). Just because you got it to work for a short time, perhaps the voltage was wrong and killed it (and the board/CPU) over an extended period? Lots of possibilities but one things for sure, from the info you've provided, that ram is not to spec and shouldn't have been used with this board.

The first thing you should do is ensure all your components are 'to spec' (no ifs and buts) when trying to get it working again. If rectifying the memory does not fix the problem, then its time to consider the other system components. Check out the Intel no-boot wizard on their website.

Thanks for the reply. After reading about the ram problems with this board on this forum, I started suspecting the ram, too. But on the other hand, that ram was working fine on that board until last week. And I've tried some slower ram and get the same behavior. Finally, if it was the ram, wouldn't I get the memory error beeps?

It'd be worth carefully re-checking compatibility because the Intel memory page for your board makes no mention about RAM this fast being supported by the board: Intel� Desktop Board DP43BF System memory

Working install of Win7 x64, started to refuse to wake out of S3. Now it won't boot at all. I've swapped out the PSU for a known working 650 watt monster and unplugged all peripherals, stripped down to 1 stick of RAM (that was installed in the machine and working before the problems started), tried a different known working video card. Still no joy. No video, no bios, no beeps, nothing. The green LED is lit on the board, and the cpu fan spins as does the fan on the video card. Tried a different stick of ram, still no joy, but a stick that was working in that machine is back in there now. Reset the CMOS, pulled the battery, still no joy. Is there anything else to try, or am I looking at an RMA?

Current status:

XFX 650 watt PSU

E8400

1 stick Patriot 2000mhz ram (2 gb)

MSI 210 video card

No sata or ide cables connected
