Grateful for any help in recovering from a bad BIOS flash upgrade

Hello,

I just flashed my Sony VAIO VGN FE31Z and now my laptop has no display. It is working (the hard disk and CD/DVD drive are accessed) but black screen.

I believe there is a way to get the notebook to boot from USB Floppy drive. ( IN HP it is a Fn + B or Windows + B keys)

I will be grateful for help on any of the following:

A way to convert my .wph file to .bin

A way to boot from floppy and create a crisis recovery BIOS upgrade floppy

I believe there is a program called wincris.exe which will help create a crisis disk. I have extracted Sony's BIOS upgrade file with the phlash, .wph files. Need to convert these to .bin Have tried looking for a BIOS editor like Phoenix Bios editor

Have also seen posts which say that there is a way to get the computer to boot from floppy.

WIll be really grateful for any help and guidance.

Thanks

Tushar

Grateful for any help in recovering from bad BIOS flash upgrade

My Sony Vaio VGN FE31Z is not showing any display after a BIOS flash upgrade. I do have the .wph file but need to convert it to bin for my laptop repair people to reflash after removing the BIOS ROM and using a EEPROM programmer. Can anyone guide me on how to edit a .wph to save as bin. I am told this is possible using a Phoenix BIOS Editor.

Or is there anyway I can get hold of a WinCris.exe (Crisis recovery disk) and get my laptop to boot from USB Floppy to reflash. I believe there are some key combinations ( Fn+B or WIndows +B) which when pressed on power on, allows me to boot from floppy.

My notebook is useless if I cant recover from this bad flash upgrade. Hope I can get some help.

Thanks

Tushar

Re: Please help decide the right server configuration

Thank you all for the valuable inputs.

After posting the question I surfed a bit and realised that my application did not require a 2 socket processor and I zeroed in on the Xeon 3360.

On going through the specs I realised that the 3360 does not support hyper threading. How much of an issue would that be.

Another point of confusion is that the Xeon 54XX series has hyper threading support and some versions of 54XX are much cheaper that the 3360

Am not too much into understanding all this but need to make a purchasing decision.

Please help understand the significance of the issues I brought up. To reiterate, the application of this server is to develop Java and C++ applications for mobile solutions. At most 20 odd workstations would use this server too.

Would it be correct to consider a 3360 with the X35ML mobo?

Thanks once again

Tushar

Need help in selecting the right Xeon Processor

Hello,

Need some guidance in selecting the right Xeon Processor.

We need a server for developing mobile applications. We do not really plan to deploy this machine as a web server or have any mail or database applications.

My question is : WHich would be the right processor and mobo to purchase?

Would the Xeon 3360 suffice or should we consider the 54xx series.

A factor to consider is possible change of use some time in the future and obsolescence.

Any help and pointers will be helpful

Thanks

Tushar
