I must admit that I've been lurking on this tread for some time and I though it was time to put in my $.02. I have a Dell Optiplex 780 with a Q45 chipset. This computer was delivered on December 31 with Windows 7 / 64 factory installed.

Event viewer is filled with e1kexpress entries "Intel(R) 82567LM-3 Gigabit Network Connection Network link has been disconnected" messages. Current driver is version 11.5.4.0

The issue ranges from an annoyance to a almost complete loss of connectivity. The computer is set to "idle" at 30 minutes where the display is shut down and the CPU is allowed to go to to 5%. This is basically the Dell "Balanced" setting for power savings. Upon wakeup from this mode, the NIC re-establishes a connection and logs a warning. No big deal. I see an indication in the "tray" that the network is re-connecting and 5 seconds later everything is up and running again. Interestingly, the computer is receiving Email during the power reduction but apparently can't seamlessly wake up again without glitching the NIC.

At 2 hours of no activity, the computer will go into standby. Wake-up is via keystroke. At this point, the computer will wake up with little or no connectivity. Browsing the Internet is just about as fast as a 1200 baud modem although the NIC status reports 100mb. Simply disabling the LAN adapter and re-enabling the LAN adapter restores the computer to full connectivity.

What I've done: The computer is connected to an Actiontec Router which is included with Verizon Fios. I've re-configured the router and NIC for a fixed IP with auto-negotiation turned off. In the device manager, all 3 "Wake on LAN" features are un-checked. VLAN is disabled. None of these changes produced any improvement.

I hope there is clue in here somewhere. I also have a Optiplex 760 with Windows XP using a 82567LM driver dated June 2008 that has performed flawlessly. It makes me wonder if I should be rolling back the driver or moving forward.
