Making Life a Little Easier

Have you seen the Intel® Driver Update Utility? The utility provides an automated way to check your drivers to see if they are up to date and lets you download a newer driver if yours is not the latest. Right now, two versions of the utility are available. One checks your Intel® High Definition Audio driver on Intel® Desktop Boards. The other version checks Intel graphics drivers.

I have used the automated updates, and they were easy to use. These new utilities make staying up to date a lot easier than figuring out the versions manually. Give them a try and let me know what you think.

Intel® Driver Update Utility for graphics drivers
Intel® Driver Update Utility for Intel® High Definition Audio drivers

This is just the beginning. Intel® Driver Update Utilities for other drivers are in development. I will post something in the blog when the new versions are available.

Support Community Guidelines

The community is designed to enable customers to resolve issues, share best practices, and discuss emerging trends. Our goal is to foster collaboration and idea sharing through discussions, groups, blogs, wikis, profiles, and polls. Peer to Peer sharing is encouraged, but please take a moment to read our Community Guidelines before participating.

Write what you know. Make sure you write and post about your areas of expertise, especially as related to Intel and our technology. If you are writing about a topic that Intel is involved with but you are not the Intel expert on the topic, you should make this clear to your readers.

Perception is reality. In online social networks, the lines between public and private, personal and professional are blurred.

It's a conversation. Talk to your readers like you would talk to real people in professional situations. In other words, avoid overly pedantic or "composed" language. Don't be afraid to bring in your own personality and say what's on your mind. Consider content that's open-ended and invites response. Encourage comments.

Are you adding value? There are millions of words out there. The best way to get yours read is to write things that people will value. Social communication should be thought-provoking and build a sense of community. If it helps people improve knowledge or skills, build their businesses, do their jobs, or solve problems—then it's adding value.

Your Responsibility: What you write is ultimately your responsibility.

There are a number of Intel support engineers in the community answering questions, providing guidance, and giving advice about Intel products. However, if you have a technical support issue that must be resolved right away, contact support.

Community Features

As you explore and use the site, here is an overview of some of the features and concepts:

Member Profiles - As a community member, you will have a unique profile page. You can upload a photo of yourself, enter status updates, and keep track of your friends and content subscriptions.

Discussions - You can use discussions to post a question or issue to the community and keep track of the replies. If you have an answer to someone else's question, please share!

Reputation Points - You get points for creating content in the community, such as new discussion threads or replies. You get even more points if you provide correct or helpful answers to others. We will be expanding this in the near future.

Content Tags - The Support Community uses tags (keywords) to improve search relevance.

Documents - Documents can be wiki-based, or PDF and contain reference material

Blogs - Blogs can provide unique insights into products, features, innovations, and industry news.

I hope you enjoy using the community!

JUMP IN - Start and Contribute to Discussions

A discussion is a conversation between users. You can use discussions to exchange ideas, ask questions, or provide answers.

Starting a discussion

Before starting a new discussion, you should browse through the current discussions to see if your topic is already mentioned.

Navigate to the community where you want to start your discussion.

In the Actions box, click Start a discussion.

Type a descriptive title for your discussion.

If your new discussion is not a question, uncheck the box beside Mark this thread as a Question.

Use the built-in text editor to insert text, tables, pictures, videos, and hyperlinks.

Attachments
In Attach Files, either type the attachment location and filename, or browse to the file to upload it.

Tags
Tags are keywords associated with content. Tags can help other users find your discussion. Make sure that any tags you add are as relevant as possible. Usually you will see a list of useful tags, which can give you some ideas.

When you’ve finished editing, click Post Message.

Replying to a discussion

When you reply to a discussion, your response will be posted below the most recent response.

From within the discussion, click Reply.

Use the text editor to add your comments.

Click Post Message.

Using discussions to ask Questions

You can designate any discussion that you start as a Question. When a discussion is marked as a Question, the icon for the discussion changes, and other users are encouraged to provide provide helpful information or answers.

By default, any new discussion is designated as a Question. You can verify this by ensuring that the box beside Mark this thread as a Question is checked when you create the discussion post.

Marking Replies as Answers

When other users respond to your question, you can mark their responses as either Helpful Answer (2 Reputation points) or Correct Answer (5 Reputation points). Up to three responses can be designated as Helpful, but only one response can be marked as Correct. When you mark a reply as a Correct Answer, the icon in the discussion list will change to reflect that the question has been answered.

NOTE: Only the originator of the Question or a Moderator can mark it as answered.

NOTE: If your question was not answered through the discussion but was answered another way, you can mark your question as answered and provide a summary. To do this, open the Question thread and click Mark as answered at the top. Type a brief summary and click Mark Answered. The icon for the discussion thread will change to show that the question no longer requires an answer.

Mark Hanna's Support Community Blog

Hello. I am Mark Hanna. Welcome to my support community blog. Let met tell you a bit about myself.

I am 1 of 2 worldwide Product Support Engineers, PSE for short, for Intel® Ethernet adapters. PSEs are responsible for writing and updating the technical content on support.intel.com; posting the latest software to the download center; making sure the contact center agents are prepared to help you with your support questions; and representing the voice of you, the customer, to the engineering teams that develop our products. I have been working in technical support at Intel for over 10 years.

At work I am driven by a desire to have satisfied customers for Intel. Although some of what I do focuses on how to solve problems that occur after you buy an Ethernet adapter, I do my best to influence product development in such a way that you will not have any reason to need technical support. I fully believe in the Intel values, which include both "Customer Orientation" and "Quality". You can read more about our values at http://www.intel.com/lifeatintel/values/.

I welcome (and crave) your feedback so that I will get to know you better. In turn I hope to offer you some insights into the support community at Intel and give you some interesting tidbits about our Ethernet adapters.
